Using lens distortion correction functionality to fix scanner distortion?

I have recently shared my woes with scanner distortion. A discussion on photography.stackexchange got me thinking: there are plenty of applications that can fix lens distortion, and you can even come up with calibration data for your lens, so what are the chance of success to repurpose such apps to fix the scanner output?

As far as I can tell, from a photo point of view in landscape mode the scanned image is near perfect horizontally but somewhat distorted vertically, so the distortion is more cylindrical than spherical. Would this still work with lensfun et al?

Shouldn’t you be able to caclulcate it with hugon by doing something similar to what you do for distortion correction?

Never tried that either.
