VirtualBox 6.1 and Linux Wayland Guests?

I’ve been running Manjaro Plasma in VirtualBox 6.1 on my old 2011 iMac for years. Now, though, I’ve hit a snag.

X11 is soon to be replaced by Wayland. While I can run Manjaro Plasma Wayland, it doesn’t run very well - it’s choppy, videos drop frames, the mouse pointer is jerky etc…

Switching display options in VirtualBox solves the slugishness, but not the video issue.

I’m thinking that version 6.1 of VirtualBox is not equipt to handle Linux guests with Wayland, as seeing as how I am limited to this version by, in turn, being limited to High Siera, it looks like my days of running linux in VirtualBox on this machine are numbered.

Any Linux experts on here that could maybe confirm/deny?

Seems like its time to dual boot instead of virtualize!

That’s one option. Just seems like a lot of hastle - Apple stuff can intentionally be a pain with things like that.

Does Mac support QEMU+KVM+Virtio? Might be a good idea to give it a try, it’s often more performant

KVM is Linux kernel technology.
