Wacom Intuos S Bluetooth & Mint 18.3

Hi, I have Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon and a Wacom Intuos S Bluetooth (newest model). The tourble is, that the graphics tablet does not work with bluetooth, although it shows up as connected to the computer. It only works if it is connected with the usb cable.
Can anybody help?
Thanks in advance
b

Are you able to get through the bluetooth pairing process?

yes. As I said, the device shows up as connected. It just does not do anything after that. I think it is recognized as a device but not as a specific device. It does not appear under “wacom tablet”.

What does dmesg say about it?

I guess the important things are at the end. I deleted some lines at the beginning because it was too long.

Your synchronised the device and gave permission to the bluetooth in blueman (?)

Yes. I have even compiled and installed the newest wacom driver. No change

And by usb works?

Yes

Meanwhile, the reason for the problem is known: the newest wacom driver for linux does also support bluetooth for this device. However, on my laptop it is not possible to use the latest driver on a regular installation. I compliled and installed the driver, but the new custom kernel is blocked by secure boot. And without secure boot, I cannot boot my system. I can only boot live systems on pendrives without secure boot. So far I have tried ubuntu and mint. Not tried manjaro yet. In theory it is possible to sign custom kernel modules so they are not blocked by secure boot, but that task is way above my linux level.

You should be able to disable secure boot in the EFI/Bios settings screen of your computer.

Yes, that is possible, but dual boot only works with secure boot on my laptop. I cannot erase Windows, I need Windows for Photoline and Affinity and stacking and panoramas etc etc. If I want to boot linux, I need to configure my secure boot and select ubuntu’s trusted EFI-file on the EFI-partition. Thats the only way I can boot a regular linux. I did deactivate secure boot for the live systems. But I can only boot live systems (form pendrives) and Windows without secure boot
Actually I do not even know if I could boot linux without secure boot if it were the only OS
I mean I could in theory switch my UEFI to BIOS-mode but then my touchpad would not work properly. And maybe I would have to reinstall Windows in BIOS mode.
Anyway, secure boot is closely linked to Microsoft. In a way, it actually made having Windows and linux at the same time easier, because I can still access my Windows recovery partition without problems. But in general, it makes things more complicated.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UEFI/SecureBoot/Signing

Have you don this before?
From what I understand, this is not an easy task

I haven’t, I don’t dual boot and I disable secure boot.

As I said, I do not know whether linux could boot without secure boot if it were the only OS. I would not be surprized if not
Basically it is the same thing as the driver signature enforcement under Windows, but that is easy to switch off

My computers all have secure boot off and Linux runs fine.

UEFI Only exists so that gnu/linux do not work

I have had both Linux and Windows on the same computer for many years. Two years ago I bought a new laptop and I could not make LInux boot. So I used only Windows. A few weeks ago I googled and found out how it is possible to make Linux boot with active secure boot.
I would try that signing thing but I cannot risk screwing up my laptop or Windows.

I encountered secure boot for the first time a few years ago when I bought a new laptop for my mother. Apparently, the method to turn it off is different for different systems. I couldn’t find a way to do it at the time. My workaround was to install Windows first and then make Linux the primary OS. What a bummer.
