Wavelet control logic

I have started playing around with the wavelet control and I have a couple of questions.

Why wasn’t the edge sharpness control implemented the same way the Chroma and Contrast were, meaning the level is listed and a slider is used to control the amount of the effect? Is there something special about edge sharpness that it needs to be applied across all levels (as per the control information). It seems to me that applying edge sharpness on a level by level basis would be very useful.

Second I am finding the effect of very limited value for portraits, but it could be used for inanimate subjects. Has anyone else found this the case?

I have a few pictures where cranking the wavelets tool doesn’t do much. In those cases I just move to a different tool: retinex, tone mapping, or LAB curves, depending on what I want to do.
