Somehow, murderbot in my mind was always androgynous-female coded. But I liked the show regardless. The books are some of my favorite boks of all time!
I, too, was baffled by the use of this modern nomenclature in a pseudo-historic movie. Surely, they wouldn’t have called their own modernity “Bronze Age”, as if they already knew the next metal age was just around the corner? Still, a fun movie, and an intriguing idea to tie Odysseus’ travails to the bronze age collapse.
Such an inviting teaser to think of our own age as one that will in the future be labelled as a ‘collapse’ of some sort.

I borrowed one of the books from the library but didn’t get around to reading it. Midway through watching Star City, the Soviet side of For All Mankind (which I haven’t watched). Pretty good. Started to watch Cape Fear series but had some pretty clunky exposition.

Does anyone watch disturbing documentaries? This channel makes quite objective, sensation-free videos of accidents/crimes in a fairly mild way. This one is quite intense, not for the faint hearted – a group of divers that the competent refused to rescue.

I just finished watching “The Long Way Round”, “The Long Way Down”, “The Long Way Up”, and “The Long Way Home”, where actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman go on motorcycle tours around the world.
The first two series go through Russia and Africa in 2004 and 2007, before much internet access, into a wildly different world from our own. Such interesting travelogues and lovable characters.
The newer ones, through South America in 2020, and northern Europe in 2025 are less foreign, more modern, and the two characters are much older. It’s a different vibe.
I still loved these series to bits! Even though I have no interest in motorcycles myself.
Now the question is, what to watch next? Star Trek S3, or Fallout S2?

Nay, that’s fine. Probably Nolan is already working on a movie about Pythagoras, in which he will be played by an actor with well-defined abs, and at some point will present a business card which says “Pythagoras — pre-socratic philosopher.”

Fallout s2 was…well, if you go into it looking for a vibe, you wont be disappointed. The overall story arc is ok.

I just watched Paris, Texas, a 1984 film directed by Wim Wenders. Beautiful cinematography and lighting. Better than recent movies imo. Depressing mid-80’s art film. But my goodness, the film was gorgeous.

I went to a movie theater over the weekend, for the first time since I think Uncut Gems, to see Coyote vs. Acme. I really loved it, the tone was just right.

I have trouble getting motivated to watch a show. I flip through hundreds of programs, in awe how streaming services can offer so many shows that no one wants to watch.
But, I got through the GoT spin offs and really enjoyed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of Dragon. HoD is interesting that you can get hooked onto a series and not like any of the main characters.
I’m getting through Ted Lasso and found it’s a lot better than I expected. A real gem.
I am a bit disappointed by Best Medicine. It doesn’t have any of the charm or wit of the original Doc Martin and the characters are sort of whiney. Plus the humor seems sort of forced. Hopefully it’ll improve in time.

I have been enjoying the cartoon Rick and Morty for a long time, and now there is a spin-off, President Curtis, which is pretty good too. Instead of the cosmicist theme of the original, the spin-off spoofs various US traditions and institutions related to the presidency. 20 minutes of light fun.
Totally agree. I started thumbing through this article to see what was coming up and just lost the will to live at about the 18th suggestion.

Re-watching Shawshank redemption or watching Green mile has been on my mind for a while, but not sure how can I get them in English without DVDs, if possible.
I was thinking about some animated movies too, like Kung fu panda 2, Puss in the boots - the last wish or even Flow. Anyone watched any of these? Me only KFP2 and that was long ago…

I watched the whole Kung Fu Panda franchise ages ago, each when it came out. These days I find that I can do something much better with the 90–120 minutes these movies take, eg go biking, read a book, these recharge me while screentime just drains my energy.

Flow is good. A rare, good, european animated indie movie.
There was a 4th movie like last year or so, but based on what I read it was quite bad, especially the villain, which, in contrast, was very good in the 2nd movie. Many say that Shen was quite authentic and well voice-acted and I agree.
