ART is now so good that it’s not so easy to ask for improvements or help.
I think it’s time to ask Alberto what we can do for ART? He is giving us such a great gift with ART that it would only be fair to give him something good too.
Flowers or chocolates? And if we can’t think of anything better, then at least a few honest compliments.
ART is the best thing that can happen to a Linux computer and its user!!!
I like to use it very much, especially in conjunction with the equally great Digikam. Easy and fun to use. Alberto, thank you realy very much for this great piece of software!!!
IMHO, beside to thank very, very, very much Alberto for its wonderful job, I think the best thing we can do is try to document adequately and organically ART.
I don’t know if it could be possible, but for a larger diffusion of this software, I think we will need something like “Rawpedia” or darktable manual, beside to the current official and not-official documentation.
IMHO, at the moment, the best tutorial of ART - which try to cover almost all the aspects of program - was made by carafife but has three issues:
it is French
and
being a video (with all advantages and disadvantages of this technique) the language is a stronger limitation than it could be in a textual guide
it is a little bit old, as it was created 3 yrs ago.
Another problem for the ART diffusion, IMHO, is due to its name
In fact if someone try to make a search in Google/Bing etc… find more easily info which have nothing to do with ART as acronym. They mostly match with the term “art” in itself.

Topoldo
Yes, unfortunately I’ve often noticed that when you search the net for the word art, you find everything but ART as software.
On the other hand, the word ART is ideal for this software: among other things, it contains art. And no other raw developer accommodates the artist as well as ART by Alberto, i.e. A(lberto’s) RT.
And change the name now? If Alberto wanted to do that, he would. We don’t need to worry about that.
I would like to take up your suggestion again: Good documentation. If someone were in a position to start something like this, I’m sure many would contribute to expanding this documentary. I would be happy to do so too. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to set up a wiki, but until then, we can or must provide as many good contributions as possible here in this forum, which will certainly help ART a lot.
When I decided to switch to Linux in the summer of 2017, my biggest difficulty was giving up Photoshop…
For image editing, I used my professional computer a lot to get by, until I got used to GIMP (which eventually happened).
On the other hand, for my RAW files, I had much less ease and pleasure using Darktable and RawTherapee than Photoshop, to the point of demotivating me from taking photos…
The discovery of ART was a wonderful discovery that gave me back the taste for photography, and the satisfaction of using free software that meets my needs made me forget forever the desire to go back to Adobe’s tool.
Thank you, Alberto, for your work!
It’s been over 4 years now that I’ve been co-administering the French-speaking forum for ART users, and the community is small but active and friendly!
We discuss various topics, including those you just mentioned.
Documentation/Wiki: For now, we were thinking of simply offering a translated version of the ART website, but we had discussed the idea of setting up a wiki tool. If needed, we can think about setting up a shared wiki that would manage multiple languages for the same article?
We have the server and the know-how to set it up if it can benefit the community.
Software name: Since I discovered ART, I’ve been thinking that YART could have, with one more letter, facilitated the referencing of the tool and fit into the tradition of Yet Another Software.
Thank you everybody for your kind words. But to keep it short, there’s really not much you need to to for the project, I think we are doing just fine. But if you are really bored, bug reports and help in documenting how stuff works are always very welcome
