They is a bug report about this. Still open
Thanks, Rich, I guess I must keep converting back and forth. The report has been around for a couple of years.
I do not know why this got bumped up
However, we are a couple of years on from that post and as far as I know (just made a quick test) Gimp 3.0.4 will open a V5 .dds file
