"White Balance Module Error" when setting WB through Color Calibration

I have seen advice to set white balance with Color Calibration instead of the White Balance Module". whenever I do this I get an error “White Balance Module Error”. this makes me wonder: what is the latest recommended way to set white balance?

That’s strange, on my system it works. (Manjaro Linux)
I activate white balance first and set it to “camera reference”. Then I activate color calibration with linear bradford adaption.
In the preferences I set the new workflow to auto apply. Up to now I have always good results with that.

The only official advice is there : darktable 4.0 user manual - color calibration

Anything else kills kittens and voids the warranty.
