When I want to bring my pictures in RW2 (Panasonic) format into the darkroom in portrait format, Dt always crashes. Dt works perfectly for images in landscape format. Am I doing something wrong? Or does Dt have a problem with that?
What is your darktable version? If older than 4.6.1, first upgrade and check if the problem persist. If it does, can you share such a file? I donât experience the problem with my LX7.
My Version is 4.6.1 This Problem was also already Version 4.6.0
I tried the same with a ARW-File. ItÂŽs the same.

Does it occur with a clean config? Run darktable from the terminal, with -d common â is there an error reported when it crashes? I edit portrait-mode images all the time, and have never seen this specific problem. Iâll test the images you posted when I get home, but donât expect to be able to reproduce the problem.
Not 4.6.0 or 4.6.1, but the latest âmasterâ (development) version â but, as I said, I never experienced an issue like you describe. Please try with a clean config (you donât need to delete anything, use the --configdir option (see darktable 4.6 user manual - darktable).
Same here, both released 4.6.1 version and development version 4.7.0-852-gf0c81ac018 work for me on Linux Debian, using the attached files.
I work under Windows 10. I have DarkTable uninstalled it including all sub-entries and than new install, but its the same problem. I can edit the horizontal images, but not the vertical ones.
Uninstalling darktable does not remove the database and configuration. Those are stored in a directory described here: faq | darktable
And please backup/copy the content of that folder before you delete it.
The idea would be not to delete anything, but rather launch darktable from the command-line, and use --configdir c:\some\temporary\directory (assuming Windows). That will let one start with a new, temporary configuration that can be deleted at the end of the investigation.

Ich komme aus Deutschland. Mein englisch ist nicht sehr gut. Ich bin 67 Jahre alt und ich komme auch nicht mit der Kommandozeile zurecht. Ich habe jetzt noch einmal DarkTable gelöscht, die HS⊠EintrĂ€ge auch und ich habe den ganzen Ordner DarkTable unter Benutzer AppData Lokal gelöscht und dann neu installiert. Doch auch diesesmal das selbe Ergebnis. Quer-Bilder gehen, bei hochformatige Bilder stĂŒrzt DarkTable ab.

I tried Darktable v 4.6.1 from https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/download/release-4.6.1/darktable-4.6.1-win64.exe using your RW2 files on Windows 10, as a fresh install and I can open and process all three files.
I can often resolve issues making a backup copy of C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\darktable to save all data and then removing darktablerc, before starting darktable again.
EDIT: Do you have another windows system you can test?

Ich werde heute Abend meinen anderen Rechner auch mit Windows 10 aufbauen und es dort noch einmal versuchen.
Perhaps also try restarting dt in the English language to test Deutsch localisation as the potential source of any issues.
Iâve now tested with the German interface, importing one of the images from the opening post â no problems here. Ubuntu 23.10, development build.
Iâll fire up the Windows box later today.
So, ich habe DarkTable auf einem anderen Windows 10 Rechner installiert und dort funktioniert auch das Hochformat. Es liegt also irgendwie am Rechner. Auch nach dem 5. Mal der Neuinstallation mit allen mir bekannten Dateien gelöscht und neu installiert, funktioniert es auf diesem nicht. So muss ich nun den anderen Rechner nutzen. Dumm nur ist, das der Rechner der nicht funktioniert ein Notbook ist. der Rechner, welcher funktioniert ein Desktop. Aber ich habe damit wenigstens eine Lösung fĂŒr Zuhause.
Danke noch einmal an Alle, die mir gute Tips gegeben haben.

I have used darktable on both windows desktops and laptops. The computer types should not matter.
The solution is probably to make sure you can clean up the old windows 10 darktable install before installing again, but reading your reply it looks like you have already tried that.
HĂ€ufig ist das Erste, was getestet wird, ob der Fehler mit und/oder ohne openCL auftritt. Schau mal in den Einstellungen von dt, ob openCL verfĂŒgbar und aktiviert ist:
Wenn möglich, schalte es mal aus (oder an, je nachdem, wie der aktuelle Status ist), starte dt neu und versuch, ob es dann noch crasht.
Ansonsten, wenn dir der Sinn danach steht, habe ich hier versucht darzustellen, wie man ĂŒber die Konsole an eine mögliche Log-Datei kommt.
Ăffne das StartmenĂŒ und tippe cmd ein:
Starte die Eingabeaufforderung und navigiere mit diesem Befehl zum darktable-Verzeichnis:
cd c:\programme\darktable\bin
Von dort aus starten wir dann darktable mit dem Befehl:
darktable -d common
Versuche nun den Crash auszulösen. Ist dies geschehen, navigiere im Explorer zu:
%localappdata%\microsoft\windows\inetcache\darktable
(einfach hier den Text kopieren und einfĂŒgen)
Dort sollte sich nun eine Log-Datei befinden. Lade die hier hoch:
Eventuell ist auch eine Datei mit bt im Namen da. Die dann auch hochladen.

Das darf doch wohl nicht wahr sein. Ich habe Open CL abgeschaltet, wie oben beschrieben und kann nun die Bilder laden und in der Dunkelkammer bearbeiten.

Das ist eher nur ein Workaround. Open CL sorgt dafĂŒr, dass dt die (meisten) Berechnungen auf der Grafikkarte ausfĂŒhrt. Je nachdem was fĂŒr eine Grafikkarte du hast, wĂŒrde dt mit open CL deutlich schneller arbeiten, als ohne. Solltest du z.B. nur eine Intel iGPU haben, brauchst du dir darĂŒber keine groĂen Gedanken zu machen. Wenn du aber eine ordentliche AMD- oder Nvidia-Grafikkarte hast, wĂ€re es schon Ă€rgerlich, sie nicht ordentlich verwenden zu können.
Es gibt ein Open CL compatibility pack, das Microsoft meint, ĂŒberall installieren zu mĂŒssen und hier schon öfters Probleme verursacht hat.

Falls es vorhanden ist, könne man mal versuchen, es zu deinstallieren. Ansonsten mal prĂŒfen, ob die Grafiktreiber aktuell sind.
