Work flow, RT to Gimp and back (coming from LR/PS)

I’ve heard many good things about RT that I had to give it a try. First up I’m coming from Adobe LR/PS so only have that as a base line.

Up to now I’m extremely impressed with RT but there’s a few things that I do miss from LR.

1, Quick spot removal
2, In LR you have the ability to send the image directly to PS for further editing, then when saved in PS the edited image automatically appears back in LR.

I know RT doesn’t have this feature so what’s the best and fastest solution for getting images into Gimp and then having that edited image appear back in RT?
Need this more so if I have to jump into Gimp just to do a touch of spot removal.

thanks.

  1. I don’t want to spread any rumors or to stress anyone, but… it’s being worked on…
  2. It’s a one-way road: Edit Current Image in External Editor - RawPedia

At the moment, this. We’ve gotten used to our workflows that usually requires us to move various parts of the processing pipeline up to the appropriate software. ie: RT for raw processing, color, highlight recovery, and many other things that are global in nature for the most part. If targeted local adjustments are required we will transition to GIMP at that point as needed and usually don’t need to go back into RT.

I guess the question to ask is, why you might need to go back into RT after doing spot work in GIMP? Could you do the spot removal as the last part of the workflow to avoid having to go back into RT?

Very cool, soo much to learn.

I guess it’s just because of the way I’m used to working, I’m used to doing it that way, then batch exporting all images at once.

I tried this before and it worked reasonably well.

did my initial work in RT
selected images that needed further work in Gimp
Exported them as 8bit TIFF
Opened in Gimp, edited, then exported back out, overwrighting the original RT generated TIFF.
The image was then being shown in RT alongside the rest of the RAW files.
