XMP or PP3 Files

I notice that I am saving both .pp3 and .xmp files with images edited in Rawtherapee. Should I keep both, or just one? Is XMP the way RT is going? Is there a setting in preferences for this?

PeterHi

Are you sure? AFAIK there’s still no xmp support in RT.

Yes, RT does not read nor write XMP files.

Processing profiles are explained in RawPedia:

Yes, you’re right!. I’ll have to look elsewhere for the culprit.

Are you also using Digikam or Darktable? I’ve been using Digikam along side RT and have DK create XMPs. So I have both sidecars living side by side.

Bridge also creates XMP files. If I use DT on a photo and catalog with Bridge, I have two XMP files for each photo.

Looks like my problem is file organising software. I have been testing out a number of programs including Bridge and ACD Systems, both of which produce XMP files.

Thanks to all for your help.

XMP is the standardized file format for image metadata - such as ratings, color flags, keywords and the like. Any software not adhering to that standard should not change these information in any form!
