Yellowish print - SOLVED -

Hi All,
I created a profile with ArgyllCMS for OBA paper and after printed a TIFF ProPhoto evaluation image I have a yellowish especially into neutral zone…I created calibration curves with printcal and I used i1pro instrument.

I tried to have confirm from datas:
I controlled all color management chain with xicclu:

RGB.txt file with R=G=B values from 1 to 255

with

I have RGB->Lab conversion of ProPhoto

with

I have relative colorimetric conversion Lab->RGB of my profile

with

xicclu -ff -s255 -pl EPSON_MPHW2.icc

I have RGB->Lab conversion which would give me the Lab values of the RGB neutral values of Prophoto RGB, don’t I?

Therefore RGB Prophoto>Lab>RGB myprofile>Lab on paper

This is the output where I have a yellowish tint under 25% which could be given from EPSON brown black ink tint and the color gray replacement of the driver :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It seems the calculation is how it would have to be but on the paper there is another thing

no, my printer gamut is not as large as ProPhoto but I convert the image into printer photo …
I think to make the right thing because on Linux when you print there is not option to choose the printer profile, hence I convert from Prophoto to printer profile in GIMP.
In this way, I think, the pixel values of the image in prophoto are changed in other values in accord to printer profile.
I would add when I softproofing I do not view any yellowish in the neutral tones but if after I converted into printer profile if I disable color management I view that yellowish…in this way the colors are totally out…

I do not know what to think… I think the values I send to the printer are right, because xicclu output doesn’t lie: I have a RGB value which is converted into colorimetric values, which is converted into RGB values which are sent to the printer. Those values have the colorimetry of the output command chain which is neutral for the most part.

No, one of your ICC profiles has Epson in the name.

My suggestion is to output to a colorspace that the printer supports, such as AdobeRBG if youre going to turn off color management, or leave color mangement on. I don’t think (but I could be wrong) that ProPhoto is a good print colorspace.

When I convert from ProPhoto to EPSON_MPHW2 I translate RGB input colorimetric values into printer colorimetric space, right?

If you’re going to do this, you need to leave color management turned on, and select the Epson color management.

On Epson printers, if you turn off color management, which you said you had, you can choose from a few different color spaces. The color spaces differ depending on what model printer you have. On my Epson SureColor P600, I have sRGB or AdobeRGB.

For example:

I print in AdobeRBG. You can set your working profile to ProPhoto, Rec2020, or whatever I want the working color space to be. But when I export the file to print, I select AdobeRBG. In my Epson print drive, I turn off all color management, then select AdobeRBG as the color profile.

No, I tried to print from Prophoto directly and gray is neutral ( by eye) and I think sRGB is the same because if I convert to sRGB RGB values are the same
When I convert to printer profile in the color picker Pixel value the RGB are not the same anymore:
from R=28270 G=28270 B=28270 to R=30093 G=27103 B=20635.
These values tell us the neutral is gone and a sort of yellow is become.

Those values I think come from the “not well behaved” profile

Plotting is all fine and well, but I’m trying to determine where in the workflow the colors are going wrong. To do this you need to print things, not just plot them.
