16.3.2024 - Ice fisher in fog

Made this one bit more dramatic with Freaky B&W from G’Mic. This one is better on higher resolution IMO. If you have 4k monitor you can see it and other images from this thread in 4k here: https://mve.kuvat.fi/kuvat/366+kuvaa±+2024/

Lazy image. Some kind of flu tried to hit me so I just pointed camera to this and took it without thinking. Can’t get good images all the time

19.3.2024 - Trees

I like this one. This one is those images I immediately saw how it will look like. I used 12mm of lens shift so there was no need to straighten trees in post processing.

This needs new processing. Street is too bright and takes too much attention from other elements.

I really like the bicycle one, except the shallow DoF on the derailleur is for me a distraction. Were the bike in a much lower gear, indeed, on the largest sprocket, the gleaming chain would neatly complement the gleaming frame. Just a thought.

I am learning a lot from these photos, so please keep them coming… I especially like how the backgrounds are carefully chosen to isolate subjects.

Thanks. I still need others to point me these small details. It would indeed complement that frame if I had set gear on the largest sprocket.

Thanks. Great to hear that and I still indent to complete this project, so much more still to come  At home, I have transportable a black&white background, so it helps in the pictures like details from MTB. When walking with the camera, I have to focus much more on them. As in the trees on March 19th, I set the tripod very low, so the forest behind lake and a small ridge could not be seen.

Ouch - this is both fascinating and scary. The macro is beautiful, mixed feelings on the subject. Reminds me of the fly movie.

Thanks. I remember that movie! I remember having nightmares about seeing it as a little boy.

I tried to get a slightly different angle on this one.

Monumet for Evacuation of Finnish Karelia. My grandma was one of those ~12% of Finns who lost their home to Soviet Union. She was from farm next to Lake Ladoga. I have visited that place once, some 15 years ago and only thing what was still standing was cellar dig in the ground. All other buildings were destroyed.

19.4.2024 - presumably the monument is on (remaining-) Finnish territory? Thanks for sharing your family’s loss

Genius! The only question is - who put the sticker. The one who owns the car or the one who caused the dent

That Wile E. Coyote brought smile on me too

This monument is few years old and it is located in Lahti, Finland. Russians are currently destroying many old monuments on former Finnish territory so if this was there, it would most probably been destroyed already. They are trying to erase a history away or rewrite it, which ever fits their aim to create their imperium again. I hope that ordinary russians get soon rid of the nut jobs that have lead their country (once again) to dark side of the history. Slava Ukraini!

It is pretty common here that people leave their phone number if they cause this kind of dents to other people cars. Though, it’s not so common nowadays as it used to be. This kind of sticker with phone number would be great way to tell sorry and then later you (or your insurance company) can pay fixing it.

Not wanting to hijack this excellent thread of photos, but just in case you, @mver, or any others wanted to do something concrete (literally - as a construction material) to address humanitarian need in :ukraine: you can find information about a current project to rebuild apartments in Kharkiv and Kiev here.

They are cute and fat looking, in an edible sort of way, but man do they never stop cooing.

Good for them, I don’t like to eat birds

I got extra security camera just for them and put old laptop to stream it to Youtube live (OBS studio), so now anyone can look what they are doing and listen how they are cooing :).

There might be occasional blackouts due to various reasons. I haven’t done any streaming before. My plan is to keep this live running as long as birds are there.
