I usually don’t post my pictures and this will not change in future. So this is an very exceptional post from me. Anyway I was super happy and grateful, that I’m already able to edit the RAWs of my new A7V with darktable, so I decided, to share the results of a day on skis with you. So see this post as a thank you for a great peace of FOSS software.
Yesterday I took my camera with me on the slope. And because today the weather is bad, I had some time to make quick edits of the RAWs on my little uncalibrated laptop. So don’t expect perfect edits.
We fell in love with this place a long time ago. Since then we are here every year. Even though many things have changed. And unfortunately not necessarily for the good. The nature stays impressive and there are stunning views all over the place.
Well as already written I can’t really judge my edits reliable. I’m editing here on a 14 inch uncalibrated OLED display.
Anyway, while I can understand that you find the tunnel picture a bit overprocessed I’m a bit astonished, that you wrote “Most of them”. But yes, it’s for sure a matter of taste. Thank you for your feedback. By the way the by far biggest compression of dynamic range happend on the last picture.
Regarding the A7V, so far I’m extremely happy. Anyway I definitely prefer colours of Canon cameras. But that’s easily corrected on dt. The sensor is fantastic. Very good low light performance. Great DR. AF is very reliable, even though I haven’t had the chance to see how it performs in really challenging situations. Everything is configurable the way I need. So is it worth the money? I would say so, without hesitation.
I’m not a big fan of intense local contrast, dehazing and such, which you seem to use in general (I don’t think I ever looked at your XMPs though, I’m just guessing) Well, yeah, I just like it different.
This kind of editing works well with strongly backlit photos, like the last one
Not really, I’m simply not the guy who is showing his pictures to the whole world. I do photography for me and my beloved, I don’t see a reason why I should share my pictures with people I don’t really know. That doesn’t mean that I doesn’t share pictures from time to time, but usually there is a reason for doing that. For example to give back - like on Play RAW, where I have a lot of fun. And therefore I think it’s just fair to offer RAWs from time to time.
I completely understand that. I do not publicly share the stuff that is most personal to me either.
I recently came across a guy who refuses to show images except from his website and the galleries he is in. For him, it is about branding (not his word) and his agent told him doing anything outside approved channels destroys value.
Hearing him made me curious about other’s reasons for sharing/not sharing. I hope my question was taken as mere curiosity and not a challenge
I think you should change your search engine. The photos were taken in the Jungfrau Region, right below Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch.
For this pictures I used a Sigma 24–70mm F2,8 DG DN II and a Sony FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS. The third Lens I have, is the Sigma 14-24 mm F2.8 DG DN Art, which I left in our holiday flat, because I thought I probably will not need it for shots like these.
