Any info or news on darktable version 5.6.1 or 5.7?

It’s been 2 months since 5.6.0 was released. I am curious around when 5.6.1 (or 5.7) would be released.

Without knowing a specific date: 5.6.1 should not be far out; I think Pascal aimed for “August”.

The uneven version numbers (5.7) are reserved for the development version. So the “nightly” is 5.7, the next stable release after 5.6.1 will be 5.8.

The target is end of August for 5.6.1. Ensure all 5.6 bugs are resolved, add release notes, etc are some of the tasks to complete.

You don’t want a half-baked ‘bugfix’ release. :slight_smile: Even if you did, the devs don’t.

DT 5.7 is available for testing new features towards the 5.8 release.

Is there a bug in DT 5.6 that you are using and that is why you are wondering about 5.6.1?

I think that the idea is that it is better to wait for developers to consider a release ready, even if it is just a minor/patch release, than to rush it. Not there there is any way to rush it, really.

If you want to follow development this closely, subscribe to updates at the github repository. But even that will not give you a release date, just what needs to be done until that happens. In most cases, even the devs do not know.

I started using darktable since 5.4. And 5.4.1 was released some months after 5.4 release. Based on my past experience, I’ve looking forward to getting an update to 5.6. That’s all.

If you don’t experience bugs there’s nothing to wait for to be honest as 5.6.1 is a bugfix only release.

I just meant to say that although the planned target date is end of August, it’s not carved in stone. If Pascal, the current maintainer / release coordinator decides all severe bugs have been fixed, and it’s better to get the release out to solve people’s problems, the release may come earlier – but also that if some high-priority bug fixes are pending, the release may be somewhat delayed. That is what I meant to say with:

From what I’ve read none of the issues I’ve encountered have been resolved yet, unfortunately… I might need to test it out to see if I’m staying on 5.4.1 or updating

This is great. Thanks to all who worked on it.
But I cannot find the tar.xz file with the source code, only the auto-generated tarball. Am I missing anything?
