Base Curve Module “Hybrid” & ACES - Like (Proof of Concept)

Getting an introspection error for the basecurve on this latest version…

I’ll go look for a log…

Hello Todd,

Thank you for the Windows version. Your problem may be due to the fact that I cleaned up the code in preparation for a PR. I reverted to an introspection of 7, as 6 was the value of the latest stable version of the master. So for future tests, you need to delete the processes and the xmp files.

Thank you again for your help,

Christian

Okay well I just did the build last night at about 10 pm EST. I acutally started from scratch and cloned your repo and then compiled that new BC_CM branch.

The image ffiles uses were “virgin” files (newly imported to DT) and I tried also to discard the stack and each time I activate the module or move sliders I get the introspection error flash…I will see if I have some miss match or maybe recompile???

Hello Todd,
I tested your Windows compilation at home in a Windows 11 VM (libvirt), and it works perfectly.
Are you having any problems with OpenCL?

Have a great evening,
Christian

Hello,

I now consider my work on the new version of basecurve to be complete.

The main new feature is the implementation of an adaptive shoulder extension in JzAzBz space. This curve intelligently compresses highlights before applying the “ACES-like” curve. The objective is twofold: to achieve a much smoother transition to white (roll-off) and to preserve as much detail and saturation as possible in very bright areas.

This version now ensures perfect parity between CPU (.c) and GPU (.cl) calculations.

You can test this appimage and the zip file (Windows), which also includes the contrast manager project. Thank you for your feedback, which has enabled me, at least I hope, to offer a successful solution.

Christian I would be interested to see how you would use your tools for this one here…

It would be a good test for your basecure and I would be interested to see what you would do with the contrast module also…

If you have time and or interest of course…

Thanks in advance…

Hello Todd,

Here is a short video with a quick edit. I hope it meets your expectations.

It’s also an opportunity to demonstrate the possibilities of both modules.
Have a good evening,
Christian

Hello,

I often use the Tone EQ module, and I’ve created a series of presets, which I’ve put in a zip file on the drive. I like to have balanced lighting at the start of processing.

Yes I use it often as well…Just the basic relight preset can often really open up a photo. I have a couple of linear ones too like you used and some single color channel ones I use for skies…Thanks again for the edit

Thanks for making me conscious about the existence of this preset again. It had somehow diffused into the mid-gray fog of my mind …

This touches upon a general issue in dt: Some of the more complicated modules have some very useful and simple presets, that are not obvious to more inexperienced users.
