Blender AgX in darktable (proof of concept)

Thanx for pointing me to this. I fear I’m still donating to Aurelien Pierre. That was the donation link when I asked in the past:

I as well donate a few quid to pixls.
If there is no other way to donate, it is hard to support the developers.

I’m not aware of any current DT Dev taking donations.

After two years of trying to help get money to AP for his efforts, it still wasn’t enough, so its understandable that nobody wants the tax implications that come along with it.

Please participate in the project instead

Aurelien gets more than 400 € per month at the moment. This is for sure not enough for living. But in my opinion for many people worth to tax it.

Tell me how :weary:
I’m not a developer nor into the deep with the theories behind the modules.
So developing or writing on the manual is not really possible. And I have the feeling that there is no further help needed on translating things to German. If I’m wrong, let me know. Further suggestions?

Use it. Test it, report bugs, work on the manual, work on translations.

there’s plenty of work to be done translating the manual … the german translation of the manual is a mix between machine translation with strange use of terminology and manual translations with a proper use of photographic terminology

OK, that sounds like a starting point. Ho do I do that? I have found here that translation is done via weblate (https://weblate.pixls.us/projects/darktable/) but the side is down.
Is there an alternative way. If so, how do I know which parts need rework more necessarily?

Weblate is down, so nothing doing there.

It’d be advantageous to work on documenting the undocumented features in English first.

I fear that my knowledge isn’t good enough for that. Anyway, I will have a look which parts are missing and will see, if there are parts where not that much background knowledge is important.

If I see it right, the last version is 4.8 ,is that complete? Are there already parts finished for latest dt? Where do I see what is missing?

I feel your participation in the forums and the playraws especially help inspire and teach people about DT.

You can (1) figure out the feature by working with it; skills and knowledge can be gained and (2) having something is better than nothing.

You can see the list of things that need to be documented here: GitHub · Where software is built

You can see the style guide here: darktable user manual - contributing to dtdocs

OK, these are mainly future features. I’ll have a closer look at them next week.
@kofa have you already started with documentation for AgX? I can for sure help with this one, even so it makes sense, that you look over it afterwards, because I’m missing the technical background.
Anyway maybe sometimes it’s better when the manual doesn’t go too far into the deep.

Yes, there’s a WIP page, you can mainly contribute with suggestions on the text that’s already there.

It’s slow progress, I’ve been rather busy at my job lately.

Thanx @kofa, I will do.
I know you are from Switzerland, but don’t know from which part (Your name isn’t helping with guessing :upside_down_face:).
So do we need a German translation as well?

I must agree with @Terry, to me your edits are truly magical and your engagement with the community is excellent. Of course I am a bit biased after How to bring life in a boring photo, and if you can help with the manual it’s really appreciated. However, please let these activities don’t let suck the fun out of it, as I can imagine that your practical examples on how to get excellent results are extremely valuable to many of us, especially those like me that are lacking any artistic vision and still struggle to get something useful out of darktable after at least 15 years of using the software (it’s not literally that bad, but it feels a bit like ).

I have lived in Switzerland for a few years, but haven’t mastered any of its languages. I’m at an intermediate level in German, so your help would be much appreciated.

OK, I will first review your already done translation work as good as I can and will have a look what is missing. After we agree, that it is mostly finished, I will translate it to German. That should be the easiest part, as German is my native language. Even though I sometimes struggle to find the right words. :innocent:

No problem. We’ll just set up a Darktablebenutzerhandbuchübersetzungsgenehmigungsausschuss.

What a beautiful German word. Is it already in the Duden? Anyway I will use it the next time on the hangman game. The win is mine!
I think even some Welsh people will envy us for this word creation.

:joy:

I’m surprised how much of this word I was able to understand
