I think you set up a starter pack on the fediverse where you can do a one click add all or click who you want individually from the pack

Not sure what would happen if people started putting #PIXL.US on their profile (not on individual postings). Would that allow this community to find each other?
From the help:
“You cannot add spaces or punctuation in a hashtag, or it will not work properly.”
so it would need to be something like #pixlsus.
I didn’t find anywhere in the profile that was intended to add hashtags to a user, just a page to add hashtags you want to follow. I tried putting #pixlsus in my bio, and then did a search on the hashtag, and did not find myself. I just found one photo that happened to have that hashtag.

It works well on Bluesky if you want to follow a bunch of, I dunno, molecular biologists with one click. There’s a maximum number of accounts per pack there, though, so that might be awks.
Edit: The limit is 150, so don’t know if Pixelfed/Mastodon would be similar
If you go to your profile and select “Edit” you will see a window for your Bio. Hashtages can be added there.
That’s exactly what I tried. But when I did a search on the hashtag, it only found posts with the hashtag, not users with the hashtag in their bio.
I’m pretty new to all of this so I really don’t have an answer about how the hashtags work in a profile. Time for me to experiment a little.
I do know that if you search darktable you will get thousands of photos edited with darktable - in fact I have started to add that hashtag to my photos (if they were edited with darktable).

No need to move, you can follow any person on any instance.

App but have to post on the webapp as only way to reduce file size

Speaking of hashtags, while you might be posting on pixelfed and photo focused fediverse sites, include the photography hashtag as it’s a common hashtag to follow on the main mastodon sites.
When I first started looking into the fediverse - some time ago by the looks of my join date, I created a profile on pixelfed, and then when I started looking for a twitter replacement I ended creating accounts on different infosec based servers thinking i"d keep my photo interest separate - long story short, I ended up on aus.social and follow the photography hashtag and quite amuzingly post my photos on pixelfed.social and see it appear in my timline on my mastodon client. 
I was using the web interface for pixelfed, and signed up for notification of the app on Android - I got the notification last week and installed it right away. I have to say it’s not bad! I quite like the app itself.
For the big follow session from this thread I’ve been copy/pasting people’s ID in the web interface.
