But then it is not clear directly from the UI information whether the last post is a reply to the previous post, or a new (independent) post in the main thread, is it?

so in both cases i pressed the “reply” button on your post directly. for the post that directly follows yours. it doesnt include the reference (your avatar) in the post. for the 2nd reply i replied to the post above it (which now says “2 replies” - which you can unfold btw) and there it shows the avatar. does that help?
