Cape Mountain Zebra - Tricky processing

A tricky/terrible shot (still new to this; actually my camera set up was all wrong, but it’s not every day a baby zebra comes into view, so I just started taking photos) and even harder to process (still new to this too): Cape Mountain Zebra, Bontebok National Park, SA (from 2023). I know someone here can make this amazing…

Definitely a tricky shot - especially the colour. Here is my attempt with latest DT.

Nice shot. The setting don’t look too bad to me.

Hard to pass up an opportunity to work with such a wonderful image, @SCHA. Thanks for posting it here for us. Since you don’t mention the lighting conditions at the time in your post, and a problem with camera settings, I imagined a brighter, more colourful scene. Here’s my try with RT (dev version 5.12-197-gdbfe21427).

Cheers, Terry.

Thanks @tbransco , appreciate you having a go and doing a great job. Taken at 9am local time, sun out and getting brighter. Cheers.

I think that’s the best one so far, Todd.

I love the way you have taken blue out of this, which actually makes the zebras look loads better. I’m on a learning journey (aren’t we all) here… So inspired to try something similar whilst thinking about an HSV colour wheel… Drop one colour out to enhance the opposite… If my learning is anywhere close to the theory.

Thanks for the play,

Inspired by some of the above, I also tried some things with ART, GIMP and G’MIC:
