I see banding. Could it be the type of streetlights you have, and you used electronic shutter?
I still have the XT20 (24 MP), and I only shoot/edit raw. No digital teleconverter.
For zoomed-in landscape shots picking some small feature out of a large scene, I can’t imagine wanting anything longer than the 100-400. Same for large mammals. Birds, especially small ones, are another story. That’s where I have felt the n̶e̶e̶d̶ desire for more reach.
That could actually be the case! I had the camera still in high-speed mode, where I think it switches between mechanical and electronic shutter.
Interestingly, I see this also in another image without artificial light. It looked like the lens correction may had moved the noise in such a way, I see these patterns in the background. Both are high iso shots (>=6400).
I really like how the spindly tree branch echos the reflection line in the water and how you positioned the subject’s extremities to fit in that space between those lines.

Strangest jump scare I’ve had. There’s such a build up, and then it comes out of nowhere. Classic Lynch
On my lunchtime walk in my neighborhood. I am quite smitten with these (dead) plants that line the edge of a pond. I have no idea what they are, but they are really fun to make compositions with. Many don’t work when I get get them out of the camera, but I have fun regardless.
IR photo @ 300mm FF equiv
Follow-up. Testing lens performance at > 100 mm with wide aperture. Here it’s 70 mm (140 FF eq.) at f/2.8. Just a few meters from the previous photo.
Happy Christmas everyone!
First time I see dog sunglasses, pretty cool ![]()
Merry Christmas
I’ve been using the D90 + Nikkor 18-105mm DX VR kit gifted from a family member for about 4 years now. It still rocks after a decade and a half, and I still feel like pushing to find its limits, often surprised of how capable it is.
Anyway, here’s an fun one @ 105mm (157mm eqiv).
This is really good. Thanks a lot for a long smile.
Sun was almost gone and I was packing my stuff, when I heard the “kiääh”…

I don’t think either of these are finished, but this is the Z7ii with the Z 100-400mm at ~290mm for the first and 250mm for the second one, on a hill overlooking the 2 freeway, looking at Downtown Los Angeles across the San Gabriel Valley.
Hi Mica,
Two nice photos! I happen to prefer the first one with tight framing. And airplanes!
