[Capture Challenge] Charge your battery and take some photos

A few more from the trip. First, glacier in Admiralty Bay, King Georges Island:

Machu Picchu Base, Admiralty Bay:

Deception Island. Glaciers there too, go figure:

Penguin rookery, Wild Point, Elephant Island. We’re still wondering how they got up there, and how they’ll get down:

Finally got to see penguins closer than 1/2 mile at Stanley, Falkland Islands:

Parent/kid relationships are the same the world over:

Penguin pictures just beg captions…

This scene was reminiscent of that Alfred Hitchcock movie:

Anyway, hell of a trip.

Edit: Had to put a toe on the tone curve of the parent/kid picture…

The ‘like’ (heart) was for the photos, not for the power plants they depict.

I expected a sunny day at the top of the hill, but I got a cold winter instead.

Nothing says “Sod off, peasants!” better than a solid pair of horns.

Is that an SSK? Nice.

Tried to capture the duality between very cold weather and nice warm light rays. Hope you can feel it too!

Not a specialist but googling around the SSK has three exhausts on the side, and this car had only two as far as I remember, which would match a 540. The horns on the SSKs i find on the net are different, too.

Some weird tail lights, if that can help identify the type:

Edit: most likely a 500K Spezial Roadster missing the central headlight.

Photo taken at the “Rétromobile” show in Paris which is really two shows:

  • one where awfully rich people buy cars like they would buy paintings (and cars and paintings are auctioned by the same companies…)
  • one where less affluent people spend countless hours putting some life back in iconic popular cars such as the Renault 4CV.

Every year my wife digs up the snowdrop bulbs in our garden. It never seems to make any difference, we always seem to get as many snowdrops as ever.

This was taken near the Festival Theatre. I always have hassles, both with depth of field and actually getting any detail in the white of the flowers. After a coffee and a cake at the visitor centre, I went looking for reflections instead.

I’m no Merc specialist, in fact I was lucky to even pull “SSK” from memory.

The drop in temperatures has led to a consistent inversion over one of the lakes I drive by in the morning. I stopped by this morning to scout it really quickly and managed to snap this quick picture. Hopefully the scene stays relatively the same for when I return on Sunday.

Just having fun with first shots and testing my freshly acquired ThinkPhone (BlackBerry Key 2 LE now sees its retirement) DNG vs default in-phone JPG rendering.

Left = SOOC, right = minimal Darktable processing:

Nice example of how hue-shifted SOOC JPEGs can be. I personally prefer something in between the JPEG and your edit.
