[Capture Challenge] Charge your battery and take some photos

Christmas addendum.

I’m only now getting around to edit some of my Christmas pictures.

Better? I can’t decide which I like more. This scene is less than 15km from where I live. We’ve had very changeable weather so far this summer. The temperatures were up in the 30s (Celcius) then this stormy weather came through and as I write this it’s only 13 degrees… in the morning admittedly, but still cold for this time of year.

I like this, more than the wider crop. It shows the road stretching away to infinity. It tells a story of traveling to heavy storm clouds and the only road doesn’t give you any other option. The road arrests my eye and draws me forwards. In the wider crop, the clouds dominate more and I don’t feel so isolated or vulnerable.

That’s just me, though. Others might - and probably will - have a differing perspective.

Cheers,

Michael P.

Working on the railcar restoration, taking pictures at every session. Last Saturday in the tent the light was eerie, laying a gold cast on everything:

To hell with white balance…

I am slowly, slowly, re-learning RawTherapee.
Here is the best of today’s developments:

X-T4 + Hexanon 28mm/3.5 + LED cube with snoot.

Have fun!

Nice texture! On my end it looks a little over-sharpened, but that might be just the JPG…?

…or my eyes! LOL

Really? oversharpened? I guess its an extreme crop

On my end it looks a little over-sharpened,

Over-sharpened? Oh, no! That was the goal for this
experiment; too see as many cardboard fibres as possible

 Maybe it’s my eyes. At any rate, just an observation, not a critique. The image is very visually tactile and communicates the fuzzy feeling quite well.

I really like the scene and framing, although very classic, and further more the colour rendition. the sharpness, local contrast and details management seems a bit overcooked to me though.

I wasn’t sure about the color rendition, although I like it. Combination of sigmoid, a film sim LUT and color zones… but never considered much the sharpness etc. I think it looks better in the full size version, but I’ll consider it. Thanks, I like input! :+1:
I suspect I may have over compensated for the not-so-great sharpness of my 14-150mm…

I got up at 4:45AM and drove half an hour in hopes I could catch maybe a little mist over Valentine Lake (near Gardner, Louisiana). Turns out I was right!

The moon is down - Moonset in the mist

Here comes the sun - Misty lake pre-sunrise

Good day sunshine - First rays of morning over the mist

Great shot! All three are very good, but that first one is awesome.

Thank you!

Great! And hats off for getting up at 4.45… :bed:
I really like the second one - very pleasing composition.

Lovely photos. I found the second particularly arresting.

Very nice! Been wishing for misty days out here…

Thanks! It’s a small little man-made lake, barely 500 feel across half a mile long.

@lphilpot It is wonderful that you were able to capture and convey the scene well. I have observed such, but have not been successful in recording it.
