[Capture Challenge] Charge your battery and take some photos

Nice! I’m pretty sure the brown/orange ones are fungi, and the green tiny trees are moss… but that’s as far as my botany goes at the moment… Oh, but I also know that lichen is moss AND algae in a symbiotic relationship.
I have a friend who’s quite keen on https://www.inaturalist.org/… you can share photos of just about any living thing and people will help you ID it, then it goes into the database. (this is my version of what it does… I might be mixing up a bit)

Thanks, and I’m sure you’re right – or at least more right than I am… But I couldn’t exactly say, “Anyone be mossin’ some fungi?:stuck_out_tongue:

It’s actually fungi and algae (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichen). The combinations are specific enough that they have their own systematic names.

Now you tell me, I think I knew that… or did I? Oh well! Interesting anyway. :slightly_smiling_face:

Saw this spider on my desk… rushed to grab the camera and the flash, I think it turned out alright but due to the angle I couldn’t do any focus stacking, taking this one focused was hard by itself. 1/4" jack for scale.

Last day of 2022 and it’s Saturday so I’m taking my time with breakfast… Who am I kidding? I’m retired and take my time with breakfast every day (well almost).

Anyway…

So I finish breakfast and notice there’s dense fog outside. I grab my camera bag and drive down to a local recreation area to see if anything is worth shooting. I found a thing or two. I’m not sure how / where they rank on the “worth shooting” scale, but here are a couple.

Most of the autumn color is long gone. Most, but not quite all. A minimalist kind of shot.

A Great Blue Heron was on the end of a small spit of land looking for breakfast, apparently. He (?) was pretty distant and small, but I like the way the mist is a backdrop.

…one more  The mist over the river persisted a bit longer than elsewhere.

Yesterday we had “Feuerzangenbowle” (mulled wine with a rum-soaked sugar cone lit above it) to celebrate the new year. Wunderful colors of the flames.

Edit: small change in development

If you don’t drink to much, New Year’s Day can be quite enjoyable

It’s a winter … but no snow.

The moment my close-up filters arrived from Amazon, it happened to be snowing. So I put the +10 and +4 on my thrift store 28-80 macro lens and ran outside.

The temperature was above freezing, so I wasn’t expecting anything great, but it was fun.

It is a beautiful cat

Yep. Smart, too.

Taken yesterday, but processed today. I’ve been trying to get a photo of one of the poppies in the front garden, but the wind wouldn’t play ball till yesterday, and there is just a seed head today.

An 8-image photostack.

I think it’s very nice. Maybe those gorgeous clouds would benefit from a wider crop.
