Went out this morning to get some photos, as I’ve not been out since nearly a week before Christmas. Figured I’d get one last sunrise for this year, and I got lucky with the clouds. It was clear skies when I went to be last night, but I’d checked the cloud forecast and saw that they’d be moving overhead at, or just after sunrise today.
I was really hoping that the pond here would have been thawed, but given that we had a bit of a cold snap a week ago…the temperatures just haven’t risen enough to break the ice just yet. Fortunately that gave me a reason to go out on to the ice to try to find something for the foreground…and all I could find in the rapidly increasing light was these two small drifts of snow and ice.

Love the basketball hoop, something I’d have shot myself.
I’m wondering what it would be like in medium format now.
More pixels, less depth of field. Your arms will be more tired, it is heavy ![]()
My elder daughter has been with us over Christmas and Hogmanay. She is very much an Energizer Bunny, so we did lots of activities. Now that she has gone home, I am having a well-earned rest.
She is fond of castles, but of the “stately home” variety. Crathes castle was open,
The gardens were nice, and the “court book” was interesting.
We stayed in Muchalls, which is near Stonehaven. There was a nice beach a few hundred yards away
But the reason we went, was to be in Stonehaven on Hogmanay:
EDIT: A beautiful day at Stonehaven when this was taken, today it is covered in snow…
Hey, a fellow Z5 ii user ![]()
How are you liking the camera?
I’ve only had the camera for three days, but I already love it. However, I had serious problems with the autofocus. These were only resolved after resetting the settings. Why would this happen with a new camera? Otherwise, I am very satisfied.
What kind of problems were they? Something related to the eye-detect by any chance?
Also, is your SD card door creaking when you hold the camera with one hand? I had to stuff a piece of tissue in one specific part of the mechanism to stop it ![]()
When focusing, several focus fields were always visible, which grabbed the focus even though I had only selected a single field. Only when I reset the individual settings for the autofocus (everything under a) did the error disappear.
No, my card compartment door does not creak.
Tea-time!
There’s this delightful little tea shop in Leeuwarden, where the have hundreds of different loose leaf teas, in different flavours. I go there at least once a month, I never drink baggies of tea powder again.
Putting off trying to rebuild what I can after my hd + backup failures. Luckily, I had not moved my holiday shots over to my desktop yet. Here are a few of the easy edit images. Still learning how to get what I want out of AgX…I have a long way to go, but I will get there eventually.
