I think Thomas Heaton complained about something similar with his Z7 in a recent video. Sounds like Nikon might need to review this part of the body.
My Z7ii doesn’t do this. I believe Tom has a Z8 now, unless you’re watching a pretty old video.
I just checked, and it was indeed an older video from 2 years ago. It was about the Z7ii.
So I don’t know if it’s a similar problem with the Z5ii or not.
I have seen a few people on Facebook comment on Z5 ii for this issue, so it’s likely a common problem.
My first photo of 2026, taken on New Year’s Day.
I don’t love it, but because it was the very first photo of the year, I thought I’d post it. The tree really was that white, and a dusting of snow still lingered on the logs on the ground.
‘Esotericism kills’ is written on the wall. Discovered this morning during a walk in freezing cold Bochum.

My daughter was here for Christmas as well as Hogmanay. On Christmas Day morning, she did a Park Run in Perth. I had a wander around the town while she was running. I don’t have a fish-eye lens, but I do have a 14-24mm lens. I used this, and have ignored the distortions in the processing.
Perth is a nice city with some excellent architecture and nice shops, but like a lot of places it is suffering from the collapse of retail. It isn’t as extreme as my pictures of the shuttered buildings around Manchester, but there are still a lot of properties that have been empty for a long while.
All the following have been empty since before we moved to Scotland, nearly 5 years ago.
I just packed up the 8mm f3.5 that I borrowed from Fuji over christmas, it took some getting used to but got some nice results from it, it really is very wide
Got a stray sunbeam on the Ikea TV console. Rant to my den to grab the camera. Her Ladyship wonders about my sanity.
We went to Allean forest this morning, one of my favourite short walks.
Getting there was fine, as usual the roads were ploughed and gritted. There were one or two cars (you know who you are) that shouldn’t have been out on narrow Scottish roads, but that is another matter.
some where in my dream !
A few explanations: this “photo” is not real. It’s a composite of two photos. The first was taken at the Col des Aravis pass in the French Alps, and the second on the rugged coastline near the seaside resort of Le Croisic, close to La Baule.
Sea and mountains combined—a dream!
The images were developed using Darktable and retouched with GIMP.
Here are the original photos:
I had the presence of mind to bring the camera when I dropped the kids off at school today, and I was rewarded with some glorious clouds being lit with the first rays of sun.
Still struggling a bit with AgX to get things “right”, and I noticed I had a little something on the sensor when I got home — luckily I was able to clean that up, thanks to a tip from the chat channel (thanks, Jade!).
@AtaraxicShrug whoa man where are you??
I was out visiting family in New Mexico for the holidays. This image is from the Joranada Experimental Range pointing towards the Organ Mountains
