[Capture Challenge] Charge your battery and take some photos

Relatable, but I think I see what you saw in it, certainly in the first picture. There’s layers, bands if you will, of color and density. I had something similar during yesterday’s walk.

There’s layers, from the bottom up you see snow (with a critter in it), but from the tree trunks up, it’s dense shrubbery, less dense distant trees, a bit of a breather with mostly sky, and then the tops of the higher trees.

I see layers in height and depth in your image, too, and that makes it work.

These things tend to work best in person, though, I always have a hard time to capture the actual depth that is in those scenes. Just a limitation of a 2D medium, probably, combined with viewing it on a much smaller surface than reality.

Oh thanks Martin, really happy you like it. So let’s demystify this

I took this photo during a walk this week. I was hiking through the snow-covered meadows and forests in our area, walking along narrow paths.

That’s when I discovered a small hole in the snow. Basically, it was a small stalk or stick with a leaf or perhaps a piece of thin bark on top of it. This created a small “cove”, which was covered by a small cap of snow. In total, this little sculpture was perhaps 4 cm wide and high. I took the photo just above the ground and had a lot of fun finding the “right” perspective

I tried to take some photos in rain/snow. There was an accident with the rain cover which was apparently blocking part of the lens. This one came out quite nice though.

Back to Bracka Street. Even though it seems you liked the colors in the photo, I do not. So let’s try colorless. They say even bad picture looks good in B&W

Sediments

This artwork by Christian Bauer is located in Langendreer Public Park.

The almost forgotten stone column in Langendreer Public Park was erected in 1997 as part of the sculpture symposium ‘Sculpture in the Park – Park as Sculpture’. It consists of old gravestones stacked on top of each other, with only the narrow sides visible. The names and dates of the forgotten graves are no longer recognisable.

Tried to read the lic. plate of the cars.

No chance even at full resolution (6000x4000) let alone the 1200x791 that I uploaded

Earlier in the week, we drove down the A9 to Perth. The woods around Dunkeld sparkled in the sunshine. Sadly, we had an appointment and I didn’t have my camera with me.

We revisited today, the light wasn’t as good and there is a thaw in progress. These were the best I could manage:

I added a late summer version of the path, just for comparison…

I have enjoyed seeing the demolition progress. Having the completion being in “negative” format is fitting.

Got op early this morning to see if I could make something of the sunrise.

En route to my destination, I saw some roe deer. I defo need a longer lens, this is considerably cropped:

After that I trudged through some more snow and ice and watched the sun come up near some willows.

Went back home (the long way) before my toes froze off.

I have to say getting those early (or late) orange-y, pink-y skies just right is still not something that comes easy… I’ll just keep practicing.

If you figure out an idiot (me) proof way to get perfect colors and transitions in clouds, please post them here!

I really liked the color processing in dsc_2265, especially the way you let the snow reflect the hues in the sky (instead of turning them neutral).

I went back and forth a gazillion times. I kinda had to reset my eyes a bit after looking at the OOC JPEG, since that was way more colorful, which looked spectacular, but probably less realistic.

Maybe I should toss this one into play_raw…

The boss! What’s a matter with you?
