At over 4,800 posts, this thread is (IMHO) getting far too long, though I think that it is an excellent one for showcasing a mixture of pictures, with comments on them.

What do people think about starting a new thread “[Capture Challenge 2026] Charge your battery and take some photos”?

What do you think they are saying to eachother?

I like that this thread is the “traditional” place to share your new photos, even if it’s really long by now. It’s currently the most replied thread and some of the most viewed ones on this forum, so we might as well continue.

Finding a specific photo in this thread is hard, I’ll admit, but it’s still okay for just scrolling into the past and looking at random photos.

I also like it. This thread actually mostly replaced Flickr for me.

Having a yearly thread is probably a good idea.

I maintain another forum that is 25+ years old and has one “general/misc” topic that’s been going for just about that long. It has about 150k posts in that topic alone. Besides it being unwieldy to go through the topic, it can cause some maintenance / performance issues (though that is a much older forum than discourse).

I’ve seen the dark future of an infinitely growing forum topic and it is not pleasant to deal with lol…

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

This thread may be very long now, but at least one knows where to search.

I recall that when the thread reached about 2000 (IIRC) replies, the thread was temporarily locked and a new one started. The backlash was significant, and the original thread was reinstated.

Let’s keep everything in this thread.

Yesterday on YouTube I watched an episode about street photography using a 70-200mm zoom lens, so today I took my 85mm to try it out. Most of the time I felt like I was too close, and sometimes too far

I’m the most happy with this photo below, even though I’m not sure how much of it is actual street photography:

I am curious: what is the definition of street photography such that this photo is only marginally participatory?

I don’t know  But if I had to come up with my own definition, it is showing the lives of people in an urban context. So, the main element of street photography should be people. I consider my photo above to be on the border of landscape photography.

Seems as good a definition as any (to me)! So if someone (or multiple someones) were in the foreground this would have been more adhering to “street”?

I ask because I do not know anything about street photography

I guess so. Additionally, it would be good if the photo also told a story about that person(s). But please, don’t ask me when “a story” begins in a photo

I believe the following photos tell “some story”:

Me neither!
