Yeah, that’s my favorite, too. Barely had to crop it, too, so I think this’ll end up on my wall at some point.

Our next challenge at the photographic group is “Derelict”. Easy enough to do, there are lots of derelict buildings within a reasonable distance of me. However, I wonder whether there is a social aspect to this, why have the buildings been abandoned and become derelict?
Anyway, here is a first cut:
The church window with the pigeon is one a took a long while back. The church was up for sale, and had been for 6 years when the picture was taken. The Debenhams has been unoccupied since we moved up here. The chimney top poking out of the trees is on an island on Loch Clunie, and has been derelict for centuries rather than years.

Wonderful images! I particularly like the stone ruin with the sheep in the foreground … it tells a story.

Went to the Oldehove again, and since it was open (despite the renovation), I went up, as well. The view from the top wasn’t worth it (there’s plenty of view, but not of it makes nice pictures, because there’s scaffolding in view). The steps and second landing were fine, though. Mix of sunlight and incandescent and noise a-plenty, so black and white it is.
Climbing it is always a bit weird — you really feel that tilt in the first part.

I was thinking about doing tree silhouettes against the incoming storm clouds, but they were not working out so well. So I gave up and settled on this:

I went to Chicago for a quick 48 hour trip while my wife was at a conference. Landed Wednesday afternoon and left Friday afternoon. In between I managed to pack in a lot of stuff.
I took my recently repaired OM-5 mk ii but forgot that the default setting is JPEG only so… I shot JPEGs on the boring neutral setting. I did a quick monochrome conversion using one of the presets in darktable.
Chicago was probably the most intense city I’ve been to. It’s dense, the buildings are huge, every crosswalk had about 100 people crossing, our hotel sat on top of three layers of roads. I don’t consider myself too great at street photography or anything like that and these shots are ones I picked out where some of the bustle of the city was stripped away.
