[Capture Challenge] Charge your battery and take some photos

I’m not much of a bird guy, even if I try to get a nice picture here and there. My longest lens is 200mm and thats just not enough - so the pictures mostly come out rather boring.
On this occasion I was sitting at an open window (not gonna tell you where I was sitting exactly ), when this little curious guy came along…

I think it might be a “Bachstelze” (Motacilla alba).

Hello, saw your question just today. Those specks come from “polluted” water. if you use hard water to develop your films, you typically end up with these specks.

You can diminish these specks by first cooking the water you’re going to use to develop your films. After cooking, use a coffee filter and some cotton wool to clean it as much as possible.

Equally important is to use a wetting agent after the film has been washed. Just a couple of drops is enough. Use cooked water for this as well.

Last important step: let your films dry in a dust-free space, without open windows and where nobody goes in and out during the time of drying, to avoid any circulation of dust particles. A shower cabin is a good place for that.

Thanks… that sounds like good advice. I was using ‘normal’ tap water which in my case is river water…
Not surprising really, that I had specks!

Well, then you have good water around!

I remember back in the 70s that a Dutch photographer developed a film just by using water from the port of Rotterdam. At that time the water was so polluted with chemicals that the film was developed indeed!

Now the water quality seems to be better…

Beautiful!

Absolutely. I can just see someone disappearing over the edge of that opening. Yikes!

A recent shot from Florence, Italy. Museo del Bargello.

Thank you!

OK, time to catch up I guess…

I attended a very small* two day landscape / waterfall photography workshop in Jasper, Arkansas last week then stayed a few more days just for myself. These are a few of what I shot. I’ve processed most of them, but will go revisit some of what I initially skipped over to see if they’re worthwhile after all.

* Just the photographer, myself and one other person

Cloud layers inside the “Arkansas Grand Canyon” on AR 7 south of Jasper – There was a low cloud layer in the valley and in town. On bottom, dull and grey; on top, bright and sunny.

Twin Falls near Ponca, AR – Despite the name, a massive storm several years ago rearranged Twin Falls into three streams. It’s at the end of a short but pleasant hike.

Covered Bridge Falls, Ponca, AR – Although there’s a true covered bridge directly above this shot, I thought this viewpoint was more interesting.

Eden Falls in Lost Valley State Park near Ponca, AR – This is a beautiful little waterfall, with dappled sunlight making its nearly-vertical way down into the falls. However, there’s a pair of ~2m tall boulders right in front of the falls, severely limiting the photo vantage points.

Mountain lake, mountain peak – …or something like that! This was at “Sam’s Throne” near Mt. Judea, Arkansas (pronounced “Mount Judy”).

Snug as a (barn) bug in a (grass) rug – This picturesque old barn is near Swain, AR.

Haw Creek Falls, Ponca, AR – When it’s cool and cloudy, it seems no one’s interesting in swimming…

Sunset Sandwich – Layers from Sunset Point atop Mt. Nebo near Dardanelle, AR

Sunrise Sausage – The sun pokes its eye through the horizon mist over Dardanelle, AR, as seen from Sunrise Point on Mt. Nebo.

If you got this far, thanks for looking!

Last Saturday at the Narooma Forest Rally on the NSW South coast.
There is actually slight battery theme (not needed, I know) - my remote flash trigger had a flat battery so I was restricted to on-camera flash… :camera_flash:
