I was deleting old images and came across this one. The image has some technical/compositional problems, and is too noisy for me to print (at least with my denoise skills). Maybe it would be a fun image for a play_raw though?
DT 5.3 with AgX. As for noise when printing the ink tends to bleed a little which reduces the look of the noise compared to the monitor. Also, film use to have grain and that didn’t prevent us making great prints. DSC03111.ARW.xmp (15.4 KB)
@age I always forget about astro denoise. Also, adding grain to even things out is something I had not though of.
@Terry I am on 5.2.1 but I reset demosiac and had a quick peak at the history stack. The second denoise (profiled) instance had a very different UI. Is that new in 5.3?
Regarding printing: I did a small test print on my first editing run of that image and did not like the way things were heading. So I pretty much nixed the idea. I could probably print an 8x10 without it being too annoying, but not larger. I may retry the denoising and print another test.
This is a preset I often use for a second instance of denoise. It is achieved by selecting non-local means as the mode and then I set strength at 0.25. I have saved this as a preset because I use it often when an image is a little noisy.
