dancing with the sharks

Shot at the shark aquarium in the Budapest Zoo. Sharks are handled by the staff during feeding so that they get used to humans touching them, it is easier to capture them for regular health checks.

The shot is quite noisy, had my daughter sitting on my shoulders so I did not have the opportunity to change to a wide-aperture prime lens.

Nice edit, bit it is taking forever to render (literally, going for 15 minutes on my laptop and has not finished yet), it is heavily reliant on D&S?

Nope. It uses AgX as usual. There is only one instance of D&S (25 iterations).
You can see all used modules here:

Thanks! Then my 5.2.1 Darktable, which does not have AgX, reacts to this by using 90% CPU indefinitely. I thought it would error or something; I will open an issue.

thanks! are these film simulations that you are using available somewhere?

I was just messing around with LUTs. The other modules I used are pretty standard: Color Balance RGB, Local Contrast, and so on.

I thought the noise was handled easily with two instances of denoise(profiled).

A couple of years ago I went to Fiji and booked to do a shark dive with tiger sharks and bull sharks but got bumped off the trip when it was over booked. This could have been me, but more likely I would have become shark bait.

I just let the image speak for itself.

I’m not sure there is opencl code for AGX yet .that could be part of it but I don’t think it should be that computationally intensive…

DT 5.2.0. Nothing too fancy. Did work on bringing their face out of the shadow. Warmed the hair, the foreground fish, and the belly of the shark. Added a little blur bokeh to focus attention to the eyes of the diver.

Thank you for the capture.

Healed (Resynthesizer) the black area and did a few other color and contract enhancements (G’MIC).

There is no OpenCL. However, this is something different: it’s not the first time I see people reporting high CPU usage and darktable getting stuck when opening an agx stack with the module not present in darktable (that is, when using a version of darktable not built from the agx branch, e.g. 5.2). It is also my understanding that this should just report an error regarding the unknown module.

Same here, just installed the appimage on debian. Intel corei5 ,16 GB, openCL enabled. It gets stuck at 100%
My MacBook M1 works fine.
I really wonder what it might be.
