@betazoid by reading the comments, I strongly recommend that you upgrade your version, since they imply that this seems to be a bug that has been fixed.
Like I said before, if I were you, I would change the strategy by automatically upgrading from obs packages, as described here.
In my case, I chose “Snapshots from the master branch”, which I believe gives me the stablest unstable versions
After that, it’s just a matter of doing sudo update / sudo upgrade on a daily basis, and you’ll be up-to-date.

I believe this also suits you since you’re on MX Linux (it is a branch from Ubuntu, right?)
EDIT: This open->close bug thing have already happened to me, and I felt a bit chocked at first (I felt like I lost my time). But better thinking, it means that they are tightly controlling things (and at a fast pace), which means that we’re getting fixes fast enough.
EDIT 2: When they say you must redo the edit from a clean image, they mean you must do that from the latest version.
