Hello,
Wonder if the opencl “test fail” in darktable-cltest does matter and should I correct anything in my system. In darktable preferences I have “activate OpenCL support” checked. So I assume that opencl is in use.
I’m using W10 with dt 2.4.1. AMD HD7540 with 1GB DDR5. Testing with GPU_Caps_Viewer shows 2 CL devices, first AMD GPU with compute units 6@650MHz and the second Intel CPU
If I run cltest at the end I get:
[opencl_summary_statistics] device ‘Turks’ (0): NOT utilized

full log: darktable-cltest_full_log.txt (27.0 KB)

Is there anything I should change or just forget about it and enjoy dt?

Ignore the last sentence. OpenCL works on your machine based on the log.

Anyone have trouble removing the darktable folder, specifically bin? I got “Access is denied” and “Unable to display current owner”. Anyway, I didn’t put much thought into it; became super admin and dealt with it.

Shouldn’t you uninstall software instead of just deleting it on Windows?

I started deleting the folder when that occurred to me. Then I proceeded to use the conventional uninstall method. It continued to the end with bin left over.

The reason that I am reporting this is because the statement “Unable to display current owner” is a rare occurrence. I believe it means that no one on my computer has access. Might be due to encryption or improper permissions inheritance and transference after coming from an external or third party device, etc. Even super admin (which I rarely need to go into because there is normal admin) couldn’t look inside.

Anyway, I just thought it was worth mentioning. If it is considered a non-issue, carry on.

I have just again tested: if you install darktable with the installer, you can uninstall it with the uninstaller (i.e: using Control Panel “Uninstall or change a program”), and there is no residual folder left, everything is properly cleaned-up.

Have you maybe added/changed something in the install folder by hand after installing? What was the content of the bin folder?

Maybe something got corrupted. I removed bin without further investigation.

Would it be possible to put windows build instructions to the wiki? I tried to get the build working using VisualStudio, but that doesn’t work (yet). I guess I need to use MingW instead?

Using MSVC won’t work as it doesn’t support the C98 standard (it’s just 20 years old, why would any compiler support that?). It might be possible using clang-cl from within Visual Studio, but I never tried it. You would also need to compile all the required libraries yourself and keep track of updates to those. So for you to keep sane I’d suggest using msys2 as outlined in the link @peterbud provided. :slight_smile:
