Dirt road in Flagstaff

When doing my own edit I tried following along with this youtube video:

My goal was to make the subject the light rays shooting through the trees and onto the road. Let me know if you have any suggestions prior to shooting the photo or to my own edit.

Thanks for sharing…usually the jpg are shared at ~85% and downsampled to around 2k or so on the long edge to keep jpg around 1Mb give or take a little…

Thanks for sharing I think this will generate some interesting edits…

I didn’t check out the video, but I know Boris makes great videos. This is my edit, trying to keep it simple, but to pull out the light ebams in a way that looks natural to me. I was tempted to warm up the tones of this image to give the beams a golden glow.

So why not. I changed WB to shade.

Sorry I’ll keep that in mind going forward

Love this edit. Especially how the trees have detail now.

Hey Terry,

When I pull up your edits it appears to be more muted on my end. Is there anything special about the version of darktable you’re running? Or maybe I’m missing something…

Appreciate any clarification here. Thanks.

Monochrome should look nice as well:

I probably used DT5.5 and it might have done something a little different to 5.4.

Beautiful shot, looking foward to playing with it later.

Reminds me strongly of the videogame Dirt Rallye and it’s finland stages. Some renditions here @Doug-Phoenix and @Popanz coloured version also look like they might be out of a modern video game.

I think I got it: Terry’s xmp has white balance set to ‘cloudy +5’ but ‘shade +0’ seems to be the same as the jpeg.

Something for the darker moods:

I like your forest colours in your original, but I think it needs a little extra brightness near the centre.
Here’s my own try. I have attempted to accentuate the light with DorS (and a few other things including an instance of CB-RGB!). Also there’s a Colour Zones sledgehammer.

So you would say modules DorS and CB-RGB were the biggest helpers for you to bring more brightness near the center? I was struggling to find the right tool to achieve this without blowing the sky out

Uli going cinematic :sunglasses:
