It is with great sadness that I announce that Sébastien, my colleague and friend, developer of the G’MIC-Qt plug-in, passed away this weekend.
He was the kindest, most caring person you’ll ever meet, as well as being extremely competent and passionate about computing, algorithms and software development as a whole.
I owe him a lot. G’MIC users owe him a lot.
I’m at a loss for words.
All of you who use the G’MIC-Qt plug-in often or occasionally, please spare a thought for this wonderful person, Sébastien, who has always believed in the magic of free software (discreetly, he wasn’t the type to want to show off - in fact, quite the opposite!).
How many hours we spent discussing software research and development!
I’m going to miss those special moments terribly.
Sébastien, if there’s ever anything up there, I’m sure that within a few months they’ll all be C++ programming experts, thanks to you.
The world has lost a talented developer, a great teacher, but above all a person of great humanity.
Very sad to hear that you lost a close friend and a person of great humanity. We need plenty more of those these days.
My deepest sentiments to you and all his colleagues and family.
Not so much, I think. I’ll need time to accept it. I’ll probably do a somethow “final” release of G’MIC sometime in October, and then put the project on a long pause.
We’ve pretty much finished what we wanted to do with G’MIC, Seb and I, so it’s probably time to enter just the minimal maintenance mode so that the project can continue to survive.
But there probably won’t be any further major changes.
