Having way too much fun with a Laowa 4mm fisheye hot from the mailbox

Weather is bleak so I’ll have to go back. Place is La Défense near Paris (business district plus shopping mall):

The lens is an all-manual thing, not very expensive (277€). Conclusions so far:

  • Not very sharp
  • Very wide angle (210°). On my R7 the grip is in the field of view. Fortunately I had a much smaller R100 available, and even then you have better use a handle stuck under the camera and a 2s delay on the shutter so that you can remove your finger from the field. Doesn’t prevent the occasional foot or belly.
  • Very small lens, even with its specific lens cover.
  • Seems well made but you have very little grip on it outside of the focus & aperture rings, so it’s not easy to mount/unmount. A small filter wrench can be useful.

Still, lots of fun, for the price.

That’s wild! I can see your shoes in two of the photos

I really like that Laowa has some niche lenses that aren’t all that expensive but still have good quality.

I can see this being hard to work with but finding architecture and stuff with existing curves seems to be a natural fit.

I censored those with my belly

Love those three shots, good job on colours contrasts and composition :-)!

what is the widest non fish eye from laowa?

9mm, I think.

Not Laowa but 7Artisans has a 7.5mm.

Lovely use of the distortion of the lens. Love the geometric roof and the red sculpture. Lenses with that wide a field of view are difficult, but fun!

I might have to get one. Inspiring shots

Seems to be a perfect lens to shoot the moon as well! :upside_down_face:
