Help an amateur colour some bricks

I’m still very new at using darktable and haven’t been able to colour this in a way I was happy with so far. I’d appreciate any tips!

Welcome and thanks for sharing!
I found it surprisingly hard to settle on a look for this image. I like it too

I expect you know already that you can apply my XMP file in darktable if you want to see my editing steps?

My try… using RT. Perhaps you could ask the cat (is their name Franklin??? They look like a Franklin) to move to the right (their left) just a wee bit?

Without trying to change the colors in any way, this is what I get.

Somewhat overdone but hopefully the intent is apparent…

Welcome to pixls!

Bricks are strange creatures. The coloration differences can be subtle but have a big impact on how we perceive them in large groupings.

Depending on where you live the dominant material used can change significantly, and other people’s renders (who have not seen your particular building) can be really impacted by what they see in their local area.

Color-wise, I think the orange to magenta variations have been covered already so there is not much for me to offer.

I will suggest, however, that you play with the Color Equalizer module and shift the red, orange, and magenta hues back and forth to find what looks “right” to you. Just remember a LITTLE change can cause a BIG difference!

Yes. And my wife and I have shopped for bricks. It borders on unbelievable how many color choices there are, even at one store in one area.

I wasn’t sure what the problem was with color in your view. But here is my edit in DT 5.4 with AgX

I think the main problem here is the overexposure but overall is a good shot.

I particularly like the centralised moggy and close crop… That is, in my mind, artistic creativity… That I can, currently, only aspire to. Chapeau!

No creativity on my second try. I just stole some ideas and tried to put them together.

Awesome to see everyone’s edit, thanks for the tips! I really like the colour in Soupy’s and Odum’s versions. Also a good point about brick colours, I don’t think I’ve thought about that before.

An alternate edit. This time, I did mess with the colors. :grinning:
