Went for a bike ride the other day, and I saw this wonderful sunset, god rays and all. It even had a lot of crows flying overhead. This is a phone cam shot, so that’s a bit limiting, but I wonder if given that constraint, what the best way is to capture the vibe.
I do know I’ll be back there and try and get a passing train in the shot, that might be fun.
Worked on deepening the blues “above” the clouds and the greens in the grass. Increased the contrast of the sun and the shadows to reflect, hopefully, the effect of the human eye looking into the bright light source. This will blow out the highlights a bit and bury some details in the shadows. Hopefully found the middle ground in the grass and the clouds and the libral use of sillouettes on the horizon to impart some detail.
Gave it the old college drop out try…
Tone and exposure adjustments to light the scene, color adjustments using look up table and color balance rgb, basic contrast eq tweaks, simple denoise (profiled, minimum strength), two iterations of d&s, a gd filter to brighten the foreground a tad…and I tried experimenting with the grain module a bit to see if that would have any effect on the grain in the sky. I was hoping that if I had a presence of grain that the contrast eq might pick it up and smooth it out…but I made such small adjustments I can’t really tell.
