I think I would love this camera..... I just need to win the lottery....

10K for this little bad boy… ouch…

I have to confess, this is a product that puzzles me. I understand the allure of a window finders and rangefinder focusing. I get the appeal of a premium product, and perhaps even a status symbol.

But the lack of a screen? What on earth is attractive about that? I’m not trying to belittle your preferences, but I’d love to hear how this product appeals to you.

I am also not convinced. If one wants to shoot film, I can understand the minimalistic approach. But to throw away the advantages of digital photography (preview the images in the “field”) without gaining the advantages of the analogue medium, makes no sense to me.

The only thing redeeming is the internal memory, which more cameras should have by now, given how small and cheap fast memory modules are for those companies. Even a replaceable format based on m.2 2230 could be feasible…

That sounds good, as long as the internal memory never gets corrupted, or can be replaced if it does. It would suck to have to get a new camera every time your memory card fails.

It’s only happened once to me, but if a $10K camera were in the balance I’d want some assurances!

This. It’s a terrible idea that I hope never catches on. Almost as bad as non-replaceable li-ion batteries.

Still have my VLUX-1 but admit I’ve not taken any captures for nearly 8 years now with it. lol

$10K is way too much for a prosumer camera, IMO. Even so, my opinion really is meaningless since I like manipulating photos, not taking them.

I was never serious but for a moment just something small, simple and robust with a serious sensor seemed appealing… of course not at all at that price

I think you could also get the new Pixii camera with a similar design for less than half the price. Which is still a lot.

I’d be lying if I’d claimed to not have coveted one at some point or another.

I have seen the promo’s for those as well but I wasn’t sure if they were a legit camera or an expensive experiment…

But there is a logo on the top. I’m confused…

I’m sure they’ll fix it for you… for $5,000

To be fair, no one needs a Ferrari either. There’s a reason Leica is owned by Hermes.

Still, a camera at that price that probably has the innards of a Panasonic without it’s incredible stabilization…

By coincidence, I read about that model on PetaPixel a day or two ago and was impressed by it’s raison d’être.

Not surprisingly, my main camera is still my 20-yr old Sigma SD9 which I shoot in manual “like a real photographer” ho ho …

Mixed signaling, because it says:

  • Unobstrusive no logo design and dark chrome viewfinder.
  • Engraved Leica script on the top cover plate.

So one of the two propositions is wrong.

More like $14K because the lens isn’t included.

Edit: $14,100 because you need that premium A/C Adapter. Leica’s motto: “We can out-apple Apple”.

No such error here:

https://petapixel.com/2024/09/12/leica-m11-d-digital-rangefinder-embraces-the-analog-experience-by-ditching-the-screen/

“This spirit of unobtrusiveness carries through to the rest of the M11-D’s design. The black aluminum camera features no front logo — no iconic red dot to be found here — and a dark chrome viewfinder.”

And they even know how to spell …

I think I would regret buying this camera. For USD $10K:

  • only one card slot
  • no image stabilization
  • no mention of weather sealing
  • no mention of ability to charge battery other than in camera
  • and no lens
  • edit: and appears to be locked in to supporting Apple and not Android.

Very happy to hear that… :+1:

Yet another choice that I find completely baffling about this product. Why discriminate against half of the world’s smartphone users? Can’t there be a “discerning, premium, affluent” android user?

The only explanation I can come up with is that this product is built purely as a status symbol, without any photographic intentions.
