I think I would love this camera..... I just need to win the lottery....

Before we leave the topic of this must-have camera, what do people think of that ISO dial right in the middle of the back?

There’s certainly a lot of real estate available to put it there, but for some reason I find myself thinking of the old rotary control on old iPods.

I think the PASM system with two rotary dials is ergonomically the best way to change settings by far. Maybe in the future, when we’re controlling our icameragoggles with our minds, we’ll think wistfully upon it and Leica can bring out a steampunk DSLR.

It’s obviously a throw-back to film cameras of yore, where the ISO was fixed for the entire roll of film. As such, it made sense to have the ISO dial in an inconvenient place, so as to avoid accidental ISO changes.

In the modern world, this placement makes no sense whatsoever, IMO. ISO has no artistic application, and should be automated all the time.

To be fair with automated ISO the user would also need an exposure comp dial. That little rotary dial on the back seems like it could do such a job, but IMO dials at the front are much more convenient to operate.

Buy it and say it’s your wife’s…seems to be working for Gavin Hardcastle.

Didn’t expect to see mention of Gavin Hardcastle and his wife on this forum! Is he still filming her doing silly walks?

Today it was a crazy dance with ND filters. :man_shrugging:

If I wanted to spend thousands of eur/usd on improving my photos, I think my best route would be finding a photographer whose work I like and getting a one-on-one intensive course. Or just following them around shooting and maybe post processing for a couple of days and being permitted to ask questions.

It took me a while to realize how much sheer persistence and planning goes into most great wildlife, landscape, cityscape and even street photos. Learning about habits of various animals, scouting for vantage points, or just a good city backdrop before clicking. Of one is not aware of this, it is easy to get discouraged or think that it is all about gear.

For the price of this Leica, I could think of fabulous lenses to buy. But they would not make me a better photographer, just like buying an expensive guitar would not make me play like Mark Knopfler.

I loved his channel when he started out. It was one of the few genuinely entertaining photography vlogs out there, and his production values were really good. I enjoyed watching the lengths he went to just to get “the shot”, and some of his skits were very funny. But around about the time he got together with his now wife, I started to lose interest. People in the comments were getting way too invested in his relationship (to the extent it felt creepy) and the channel felt less about photography. The whole “look how cute and goofy my wife is” started to feel very forced and not what I had originally come to the channel to enjoy. But he seems to be doing well, so good on him for finding a niche in a crowded space.

Likewise. And that applied to both his shooting and his editing. These days, things do seem a bit hit or miss.

I think its hard to come up with original stuff after doing YouTube for so long, I think that’s why he has leaned more into his wife, skits, and gear.

I think he is entertaining and original, and refreshingly unserious compared to others, so I keep watching.

Definitely. I can’t imagine trying to come up with new ideas every week, which is apparently the sweet spot for making money on the platform. It’s also plainly obvious from many of the channels because they often repeat a topic every two years or so. I’m actually very impressed that so many YouTubers manage to keep going for so long. I get burned out with my passions, let alone with things considered more of a job. I realize it’s their income, so they don’t always have much of a choice, but you have to perform for the camera, so harder to get though a bad day than a desk job
