Kirchwarft, Hallig Hooge, Germany

Here a picture taken two days ago on „Hallig Hooge“, Germany. For fun, I left the noise and added some extra grain. You have the impression that this view of the „Kirchwarft“ could have been the same a century ago. The „Halligen“ are small islands in the North Sea that are part of the year flooded („Landunter“).

Nice.

I immediately noticed that this house/farm was build on a terp to keep it dry when water floods in on occasion. A nice old style way of building.

I did not know about Halligen, but it turns out to be part of what the Dutch call the Waddeneilanden. This is a string of islands from the northern part Netherlands, via Germany all the way up to Denmark.

Nature is beautiful there (at least the Dutch parts are, haven’t seen much of the other parts).

For those that are looking for something a bit different: Mudflat hiking. Do make sure your gear stays dry though…
