Here’s a pic I took recently on an overcast day across a lake. It’s got really low dynamic range, so thought it would be an interesting exercise to see in which direction you would go:
This was some experimenting I did with the WIP AgX module in Darktable to see what I could do. Not sure if it’s the direction I would ultimately take it, because I usually prefer to embrace and highlight the actual conditions. But it was a fun exercise:
Yes, it is. I chose it for a Play Raw because I really struggled with it. It’s very hard to make it interesting while keeping it looking natural. The colours are the really tricky part, I find.
Ultimately it’s a bit of a throwaway snapshot, but it’s really good as a post-processing challenge.
This could be an image where digital editing leads us astray. I suspect there might not have been a lot of detail and maybe even color…The fog and mist are the stars and so maybe you play that up and in the end it might just be as you said a throwaway if you can’t do that.
Tried to keep it simple. Tried …
For the botanics I mainly used RGB curves to get some contrast and Selective Editing for the almost white clouds
RT as always from me
