Let me compare DT and C1

20250601-065927.RAF (41.1 MB)

The raf file is the original raw from my Fujifilm XT5 and the image shows the edited result from C1.
Just one example to see what people with experience in using DT is able to get (and maybe one day me too! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

You need to post a license to allow others to edit your image. See other Play Raw threads. Thanks.

Another attempt, using AgX. The first one used FilmicRGB.

@Carlo_Mascellani : On the RAW the blue of the water is not so present and the bird is not white. If you set the white point to the bird, the water is brown. So wondering how this has been done in C1, masks? AI?

I don’t do birds a lot, it was fun

Quick edit. I tried to emphasize the green patch and the dark parts of the bird.

I made with masking. I hope to be able to get the same in DT as I do a lot of post processing with masks.

Nice picture,

I’ve done a quickie. Very different from your interpretation and relatively simple:

  • noise reduction, stronger then I usually do
  • lens correction
  • made a rough and quick mask for the feathers of the bird
  • used that for both an instance of tone equalizer and color equalizer. The former one to master a bit the contrasts the latter to diminish the blues on the shadow side of the bird
  • color calibrated on the birds feathers, partly shaded, partly in the sun
  • cropped a bit similar to yours
  • contrast equalizer for a bit of sharpness
  • color balance for a bit of color and contrast
  • local contrast
  • I deliberately did not use contrast equalizer for clarity, did not like it, I think you used quite a lot of ‘clarity’ (maybe named different) in your C1 approach

Did you already find out how to import and attach xmp’s to vitual copies for comparison goals?

Not yet. I just installed DT, so I need time to check the tons of option.

Great shot! I like how the feathers from the neck look like little tiny arms fishing in the water. I like your edit from C1.

Here’s my version with darktable including some explanations.

Here’s mine.

Originally I wanted somethomg more like @Masterpiga result but it wasn’t working out, so I went back to cool blue water and ovrdid th blue, lol.

This is way off my usual subject matter and a huge challenge. Which was nice!

That’s beautiful! And so much cleaner than my attempt which throws masks at everything
