Libre Graphics Meeting 2025

Hopefully we will have time to talk before and after the workshops

So I just finished my slides. But I unfortunately didn’t manage to think further about the idea of a photo trip. If there’s anyone around from the Nuremberg area, I’d really love if they would offer one.

I already went to the schwarzachklamm on monday and I will be here until tuesday. I would like to go foranother hike on monday or tuesday, but I dont know the destination yet. On Sunday I will only have time in the morning as I will visit my cousin in the afternoon.

Yesterday it sounded like there will be a photo walk Friday night.

Sadly, I won’t be able to join you, as I fell ill. Worst possible timing on that.

All the recordings are up on:

Our lightning talk was on friday, the only more or less photography related talk.

My two workshops were not recorded, there were 2+2 participants, but that was enough to troubleshoot windows, macos and ubuntu lts.

According to the speaker of the State of Libre Graphics he did try to reach out to the pixls.us community in order to include slides about some photography projects but there was no reaction. Whose task would that have been and who even saw his post here? I think I didnt.

I saw jia post. And I meant to reply to him, but then work got wild, really wild.

He posted publicly, and I ragged a few people. Sad he didn’t get any replies.

Whats going on in this community? Why are we not able to send at least one or two important people to this conference so they could attract more users and other developers?

Why does everybody only live in this forum and github? And not irl?

Well i live in America and I’m too anxious to leave the country and/or fly.

Quite a few people were turned off by the fact that RMS was going to give the keynote.

We are still in a pandemic.

That was cancelled.

Anyway we need to something about this situation if there will be an LGM2026.
What about @Jens-Hanno_Schwalm or @s7habo. They dont live so far afaik. Just to name some examples.

I’m sure people still didn’t go because of it. It was a weird choice, to say the least.

Maybe you can reach out and invite them instead of calling them out publicly.

For what it’s worth, it was great to meet up with you for a few minutes at LGR! I am very sorry for not continuing our conservation, my CEO suddenly called with a company emergency, and then I fell sick and couldn’t even leave my bed.

It was announced rather late, well after the official program was compiled, and I think at least among thespeakers there were not so many, if any at all, who cancelled because of this.

Maybe it was announced to late that it was cancelled. That might have been a problem for the people with the green name tags.

But never mind.

For a journalist though a keynote by stallman at lgm and the reactions to it could have been very interesting LOL

Those who pulled themselves back shortly before the event had otherreasons like unclear reimbursement of traveleing costs and visa issues.

To be fair the best would be to have the dates at least one year ahead of schedule. For people in poorer countries traveling can be expensive, even within Europe, and if people have to schedule it without good leading time, it will get even worse. 1-2k€ for a German is a lot less than for a southern european.

This year it seems like we got 5 months give or take of time, but that might not be enough. I understand these things are hard to schedule but we need to look at all the variables to see why attendance is so low.

That said I wouldn’t mind to go next year depending on where it happens.

Its usually happening during the holiday and long weekend in may, there is that catholic holiday whose name i dont remember, before or after that is usually a so called window day that people often take off so theyhave time to attend.

For 2026 there is no official venue yet but probably the best candidate is the upper austrian capital Linz with its art university. Other possibilities might be Vienna, Offenbach and again Nürnberg.

Its really unsure that there will be an lgm2026.

Did we ever have an lgm in the us? I know it was several timesincanada but that was a long time ago… i think lgm should be in north america again but that would require some money to pay the traveling costs for all the europeans and maybe some people fromasia as well.

I am sad too, but its ok, I noticed that you were sneezing all the time, I thought you had a terrible allergy.
It was also very nice to meet you in person.

It started out as a simple enough hayfever attack. But two corporate escalations and some conference travel apparently pushed me over the edge. I hope I didn’t get anyone else sick.

It sounded like even this year’s LGM was a bit of a gamble to organize. Did they find an organizer for next year?

Thats why we sent you. you are just as important as everyone else on this forum. so great job attending in person.

which brings me to the point:

you have no idea on why people didn’t attend in person. and without understanding their reasons. the way you called out people is imho quite bold. and not in a good way.

Nobody sent me.

I am serious. If we are not able to send a proper delegation to lgm or at least submit slides for the state of libre graphics, something is wrong with this community.

Is it going to heal by itself eventually or should we try to actively do something about it?
