You coming here after your recent sporadic participation to tell us how bad we’re doing for not attending an event, while me personally doing as much as i possibly can give my time and energy levels feels really bad.
If you think this is the right way to go about things then we are in heavy disagreement.
Maybe people not attending has nothing to do with you. Maybe those reasons why people did not come were super varied. Probably differently for every single one of them.
For some of them it might have been the whole RMS thing. For others politics and the travel implications. ( you are in a very blessed situation that EU is still working and we only have minor border controls because of some german stupidity. ) Yet others had family obligations. had to take care of kids. sooooooo many reasons.
guys please be nice to anna, she clearly is a well established part of the contributing community, no need for personal attacks… fwiw i don’t find the question overly aggressive, and apparently something did go wrong: lgm has such a hard time since covid. i can understand the frustration. my last year here was a bit rough so couldn’t reasonably have made it to lgm this year. also i’m not sure i could have contributed anything interesting.
Well my original question only concerned thereason why we did not submit slides to the state of libre graphics. I had to be sure about the reason since I am writing a report about lgm.
I know I cant force anybody to attend lgm, and the 4 participants in my workshops were more or less ok for me. At least I wasnt alone, that would have been a real catastrophy for the organizers as well. Afterall I am not exactly an award winning actress so maybe that was better than 50 participants.
But the fact that there are no slides about any open source photography tool in the state of libre Graphics is from my point of view a real desaster for us. It Makes us look like we dont exist.
But probably that is also my fault, as I didnt even see the speakers post. I would have done that myself if I had known about it.
Again, LGM isn’t Mecca. I had 12-15 people in my darktable talk in March on the Libre Graphics Track at Scale. The godot talk had ~20-25 and the blender talk had ~35.
If it feels like some huge problem to you, then you should do more to alleviate that.
Same to me. I just took the opportunity to attend, as LGM was physically close to me. I really value FOSS in general and, talking about photography, dt specifically. Thus I was just hoping to meet some like-minded people and connect to some other dt fellows. In return I tried to give back by contributing with my knowledge and experience for some sessions and overall community building (I didn’t feel competent/authoritative enough to talk in behalf of pixl.us or dt). Let’s see if it was effective enough. LGM indeed seems to struggle, but hope is not lost.
So it looks like LGM 2026 will be in Nuremberg again.
I just wanted to ask who is planning to attend. I am asking because I am not sure if I will attend - I mean if hardly anybody from the open source photography (darktable etc.) people is going?
I would be willing to go, but only if there was more than just LGM, for example Pixls.us meeting, or some photo walks. It’s hard to justify a 1250-1500€ or more(depending on hotels) trip simply for LGM alone. Especially since I don’t have much to contribute directly
I think I‘ll do this: I won‘t host a workshop or give a talk. Nuremberg is close enough. If I see something interesting and/or photography related in the program I will get some cheap sparschiene tickets and maybe give a lightning talk.
Unfortunately, I was unable to come this year as the date was announced too late. If the date is announced earlier this time, I will try to come.
And I will also bring my camera with me and go hiking in the area around Nürnberg.
If I remember correctly, the date was not officially confirmed because the location had not been finalised. Then my wife was quicker and booked another holiday.
