Is there a way of applying some sharpening on a specific area only (fur of cats and dogs…)

No,
not in the official release and release candidate.
There is however a local lab branch beeing developed, which allows for local processing.

These are for Windows. I’m on Linux: archlinux.

I’d rather not have to switch to different software. I’m already struggling with:

  • Digikam for the DAM
  • Rawtherapee for a lot of processing
  • Darktable for when I need the parametric selections
  • Photoshop (windows) when I need to do compositing
  • Autopano pro for panoramas

Well if you are already using darktable, then why not do it there? It has powerful possibilities to select specific areas.

Because I’m trying to simplify my life. Right now I have to keep track of which image is processed in rawtherapee and which is in darktable.

Might be completely unuseful for you, I am adding _dt, _rt and _lzn to filenames, when saving.

No, that wouldn’t do it for me, because I work from the DAM and not from the JPEG.

Then I guess you’ll have to compile RT yourself from the locallab branch.
