Not a pro. Haven’t posted before. Thought I’d post a pic and see what happens. Anybody want to play with this? Sorry about the date/time stamp, I value that for my purposes. Mainly take pollinator garden pics and pics of birds etc. for fun. I’m using a Nikon Coolpix B500
I can move this to the ‘PlayRaw’ category for you, but you’ll need to add a licence. Please read:
BTW, do you have a raw file available? JPGs are not the best starting point for further editing.
I’m not sure what a raw file is. I reduced the original image in size. When I downloaded the picture from my camera it was saved as a .jpg. How do I produce that? And how do I produce a license? Please move or whatever is appropriate.
It only shoots JPEG, unfortunately.
If you want others to edit it for you, the original is really needed. Too much detail is lost here.
A raw image is a kind of file containing unprocessed data from your camera’s sensor. See
A commonly used licence would be:
This file is licensed Creative Commons, By-Attribution, Share-Alike.
@Donatzsky : thanks for checking the camera.
@Geoff1 : normally, we ask people to post reduced resolution images when presenting the edited result, but for source material to be edited, posting the full-resolution original JPG is fine (it will be much smaller than the typical 15-60 MB raw images).
Very nice capture, BTW.
OK, I have some reading to do. Feel free to eliminate my post if that’s appropriate at this time. I can try again once I have a better idea of what I’m doing.
There’s nothing to ‘eliminate’. If you add that line with the licence to the original post, or as a comment, it’ll allow people to edit.
As for the raw, your camera can, unfortunately, not produce such files. However, it does not mean you (and it) cannot take good photos, or that those photos cannot be ‘played with’. It’s just that flexibility is reduced (instead of ‘cooking from raw materials’, people can only ‘add spices to the cooked dish’).
Thanks for your time. Is this what the size would be of the raw image?

This is the size of the uncompressed jpeg image where every pixel uses 24 bits of data. A raw image is somewhat smaller, depending on the camera
Thanks. I’ll let you guys go now. Bye.
Absolutely no reason for you to leave us!
Everyone starts as a beginner.
If you attach the original jpeg with the license mentioned before, you will surely get several edits and hints
No, but as already said, your camera doesn’t support raw format, so don’t worry about it. Just post the original JPEG file without resizing and include the text about the licence.
