Migrating tagged photos (and tags) from Lightroom to Darktable

So i’m having a real hard time trying to migrate to Dt since i can’t bring my collections to it from Lr, so i tried making hierarchical keywords on Lr to try and keep a bit of the organization, but when importing on Dt i gets really chaotic because all tags get “duplicated”: for example, a photo with the “Places|Place 1” tag, also has the Places and Place 1 tag, which also makes the appear duplicated on both the tagging and collections modules, i’ve been searching and trying things for like 4 hours and there’s nothing that helps, answers or other places are either confusing, outdated or just post are left unanswered, does anyone knows what can i do?

I had the very same experience.

Maybe a simple way is in LR to create a keyword for every collection and apply this keyword to all pictures in the collection.

Thus you may filter in dt on this keyword.

The technical reason why dt seems to break the hierarchy is LR puting the keywords multiple times in files. dt has no way of knowing how to handle this. Look for dc: subject and Lr:hierarchicalSubject.

You might use something like exiftool to clean up your files.

Need more details about exactly what you are doing to give more advise. For instance do you use .xmp files in LR, what kind of files do you migrate?
