Morning Spider Web - an exercise in exposure.

Got a chance to get out to a local park this morning and worked on some techniques I have been reading about. Over in the discussion Canon EOS T7 - Good deal or Overrated? 2 the book “Understanding Exposure” was recommended:

So I bought the Kindle version for my library and started reading. Despite understanding exposure (for the most part) the book helped clarify points in exposure and composition. I echo g-man’s recommendation for this book, especially if you are learning.

From my days shooting film to putting my camera down for many years for life and finally picking it back up and working to understand digital photography I have labored to understand capturing what I see. Was fascinated to learn the human eye sees 16 stops of light while the best of cameras are limited to about 7 stops which answers some questions for me. Anyways, here is a shot that only took an adjustment to the RAW file with exposure to get a happy result  . See what you can do with it, love and look forward to see the results.

I’m with you, Fred. After I applied FilmicRGB, I said, “Damn, that looks good.” So I didn’t do much else. Excellent image!

Really nice capture. It didn’t need much editing but I decide to try and selectively sharpen the web and play with contrast to bring out the web. I had a failed attempt at giving the background extra softness, so I abandoned that idea.

Looked like a candidate for Edge-Detection (GIMP’s default Laplace), thresholded, sharpened, then blended with a bit of the original …

Maybe should have sharpened first?

There are some really beautiful takes on this image. B/W seams to work well. @Popanz, you have a creative eye and I look forward to your interpretation of these posts. @Thomas_Do, I like the close crop to show off the droplets. Everyone gave me some great insights on how to see the image, thank you.

Here are my B/W offerings:

With GIMP 2.6.36 / Gmic Lab mixer to adjust hue color / curve for contrast adjustment and also adjust color temperature.
